The speakers at Julys meeting where Gail & Colette from Inspire who introduced us to their Inspire Project.  The aims of the project is to delivery training and employment prospects to adults with learning difficulties. The venue would be Waterloo Road, Widnes You can self refer to the project by telephoning 0151 422 0111 or e-mail gatewayc2017@outlook.com.  More details can be found on the website www.gatewaycommunity.co.uk.  Your cared for can attend from half day to a full week, and can be funded by direct payments. Or via Personal Budget.  (We covered Personal Budgets many years ago, if you want, I can get Mal Hampson from Halton Speak Out to come again and talk to us about Personal Budgets).  They will cover Foundation skills i.e. Work skills,   Vocational skills i.e. Creative techniques, photograpy, art & design etc. and Life Skills i.e. cooking/home skills.  They are having an open day in September, date to be confirmed.

 

Funding – I have not applied for any funding for a few months, but will start my searching again for funding for the group

 

 Sponsored walk – Sharon & Danny are doing a sponsored walk for HALDS on Sat 7th September from Widnes to Frodsham, which is greatly appreciated, if you have not yet sponsored them, the sponsor forms will be at the September meeting

 

Don’t forget to keep filling up your slummy jars for HALDS, bring along your full jars and collect an empty one to refill. Up to know the jars have raised £143 for HALDS funds.

 

There will be no meeting in August and also no bowling, I apologise for those who attended the July bowling and it hadn’t been booked and was full of school children, I hadn’t even given it a thought to book, hence the reason why I took a back seat at the present, my mind was everywhere.  The bowling will re-commence on Monday 9th September and yes it is booked and our next meeting will be on Mon 30th September where our speaker will be Lorna Lucas from Cheshire Fire & Safety.

 

Sailing on The Danny – Monday 5th August – Steamship Experience followed by lunch at The Riverside, Action Bridge. Please wear warm clothing and suitable footwear.  Coach will be leaving Widnes Stobart Stadium at 10.15 and Runcon Old Town bus station at 10.25am.  The Danny will set sail at 11am from Sutton Weaver and sail to Acton Bridge, arriving at 1.30pm, where your coach will meet you to take you all to the Riverside for lunch.  No meals have been pre-ordered.   Arrival back at Runcorn 4pmish

 

 

 

 

Marlborough Hotel – Sept 20th 2019 – 3 nights £140 plus coach £15 per person.  This is a 3 night stay at the hotel which includes bed, breakfast & evening meal, plus entertainment on 3 evenings.  Coach will be leaving Widnes Stobart Stadium at 1.15pm and Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 1.30pm.  For people who have not paid the coach, this can be paid on the day.  We had received £750 towards our Marlborough Hotel weekend, therefore as we are now no longer going to the Marlborough at xmas, the £750 will be refunded to HALDS members attending the Marlborough weekend on Friday 20th Sept.

 

Liverpool Empire – Mon 14th Oct – Les Mis, Cost £20 for HALDS members, Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus Station 5.45, Widnes Stobart Stadium 6pm.  – Money to be paid by end Sept – All places taken

 

Chatsworth House – Mon 18th Nov £10 – Coach will be leaving Runcorn at 9am and you will be home 7.30pmish.  This will be a full day event, on arrival at Chatsworth House, you can visit the Christmas Market and gardens, have lunch etc, we are then booked on the house tour at 3pm.

 

Beauty & The Beast on Ice – Sunday 15th Dec –  I have re-introduced the ice show at Blackpool it will be the ice show only, no meal beforehand and only for 1 coach of 49 people, please put you name down if interested in attending. Money to be paid by end November

 

Once – Liverpool Empire, Thursday 23rd Jan – I have reserved 22 places, please let me know by end Sept if you would like to attend, as I have to confirm number of seats by Oct.  Once is a musical about a Dublin street busker and a Czech musician filled with live music and a love story`

 

Eurodisney – 14th March 2020. If you would like to add onto the trip at any time, please let me know, Full cost is £629 for a twin room, £722 for a single room.  Cost includes 1 night in Dover with evening meal & breakfast,  4 nights at Santa Fe with breakfast and 2 day park passes,  Balance due by end Sept

Halton SEND is a group for parents/carers of 16 – 25 year olds they are having a forum on Thursday 19th September 12 – 2pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Parish Club, Mayfield Ave, Widnes, WA8 8PR, it is an information update event for parents and carers on the restructuring of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health) in schools and services in Halton.  The event is held in conjunction with Halton Borough Council & People too. I am also having a coffee morning at my house, 62 Betchworth Crescent, Beechwood on 14th August at 10.30am, this is for my granddaughter Georgia who is raising funds for a volunteering trip to Kenya for 1 month in August 2020, with Camp International, she has to raise all her own funds to go. All welcome

April Newsletter

We did not have a speaker for this months meeting, as Beth & Pam from Healthy Halton were unable to attend, so instead we had a catch up from past speakers with the leaflets and information I had and also discussed the way forward for HALDS.  I have received positive feedback from this session, as members thought it was most beneficial the information received.

Funding

We have been granted HBC funding of £1,550 which is for our monthly meetings and also £800 from HBC Area Forum.  Unfortunately we were not successful with D’Orlys funding.  We have 1 more funding bid out at present with Rank who do not meet until May.  At present our funds are good, but with events booked so far this year this will soon be spent.  To give an idea on costs used for trips, the Coronation Street tour cost us £525 for tickets and £325 for coach totalling £850 less £250 collected from members who attended, so this cost £600.  So this gives you some indication of what is spent on trips.  So though funds are good at present, we do need to keep having fund raising events to keep funds topped up.

Friday 12th April, Easter Bingo – This is the last meeting before our Easter Bingo with Easter Bonnet Parade, disco and raffle. Tickets now on sale £1, door tickets will be a separate raffle, so please put your names on your entrance tickets.  Doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start. Prizes will be Easter eggs/chocolates.  Please support this event, ask friends and family, it will be a good fun night.

Friday 19th July – HALDS Summer BBQ – Tickets £3, there will be a disco, rock ‘n’ roll bingo, HOY and bbq food for sale, doors open 5.30.  Tickets are slow moving on this event at present, so if you know you would will be coming along, please purchase your tickets.

There will also be an Easter Bingo with Kerrie & Vera on Tuesday 16th April at Halton Brook Community Centre, ticket sales start at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.  Some of the proceeds will come towards HALDS funds.  

Save your slummy for HALDS – I have plenty of jars to give out if you would like to take one home and  Save your slummy for HALDS.  As you bring in a full jar, you can take an empty one home with you.  So far we have collected over £120 from the jars.

AGM – Our meeting on Monday 29th April will be our AGM when our 2 year stints have come to an end, if you would like to be nominated for any of the posts of Chairperson, Secretary or Treasurer or you would like to volunteer to make teas/coffees at the meetings, organise raffle prizes or take money at meetings, please let me know, or become a committee member, where you can decide on events and speakers for meetings, we meet every 3 months at 1pm on a Monday at Laburnum Grove.

HALDS Bowling sessions – The next HALDS bowling session will be on Monday 8th April, the cost is £6 per person for 2 games of bowls, tea/coffee and bacon butty.  Please meet no later than 10.20 to allow time to change shoes and for me to pay and organise the lanes etc.   We will have our bowling prize giving at the Summer BBQ. 

Tramway Village, Matlock – Sat 27th April – Cost £10 – Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 9am and leaving for home from Matlock at 5pm. Your admission includes tea/coffee on arrival, finger buffet lunch at 1.30pm, unlimited electric tram rides, entry to exhibitions, three acres of woodland park – Money to be paid by end March

Royal Court Variety Lunch Club/Meal– Wed 8th May – Cost £10, which includes coach from Runcorn Old Town Bus Station at 11.45, Widnes Stobart Stadium at 12noon, Variety show and pub meal at Yacht Club Bar on Liverpools Waterfront.  Getting back to Runcorn 6pm approx. Please let me know if interested in coming, as there are 2 tickets still available.  Money to be paid by end April 

Mon 3rd June – Quiz evening with HVA at St Maries, Widnes – We now have our team of 6, but if you would like to come along please let me know and we could possible get another team together 

Birmingham Sea Life Centre/Shopping Birmingham city centre – Sat 18th May – £15 for HALDS members, we will be leaving Runcorn 9am and Birmingham for home 6pm.  This event will include a visit to Birmingham Sea Life Centre including a behind the scenes tour, then a couple of hours in Birmingham city centre and time to eat.  For those who have never been the Sea Life Centre and city centre is on a canal, with plenty of eateries on the canalside. Money to be paid by end April.

Carers are free on production of proof of disability on the day at the Sea Life Centre, so please bring along your PIP letters. Otherwise you will have to pay on the day.  This is now all booked and paid for

Gardeners World Live   – Thursday 13th June – Cost £20 for HALDS members and £30 for non members.  This is a full very interesting day at Birmingham NEC, we will be leaving Runcorn 8.30am and arriving home 8pmish. Money due by end May – This trip is now all booked and paid for 

Llangollen Eistefodd – Friday 5th July, Cost £10 for HALDS members, £20 for non HALDS.  Leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus Station at 9.30am, you will be dropped off at event field, where you will have the time to wander on your own, listen to singing, watch dancing and shop etc. Later in the afternoon, there is parade of the nations, which leaves carnival field at 4.30 and walks into Llangollen town. Well worth to see.  Leaving Llangollen 6pm for journey home.  Which will give you time to watch parade and get something to eat. Money to be paid by end June

Mamma Mia – Brindley Studio – Wed 24th July– Due to the success of Greatest Showman and Grease, we will be having a showing of Mamma Mia in the Brindley Studio, this showing is for HALDS members and friends & family, as before it will be reduced lighting (not dark) and a dance floor for the guys & Sharon to dance. Cost £6.50. Money due by end June

Sailing on The Danny – Monday 5th August – The Daniel Adamson known as The Danny. Come and enjoy a Steamship Experience followed by lunch at The Riverside, Action Bridge. Cost £10. Money due by end July. I will need to know numbers by end March to enable me to book the steamship

Shrewsbury Boat trip – Saturday 7th September – We will be picking up Widnes Stobart Stadium at 9.30, Runcorn Old Town bus station 9.45am travelling to Shrewbury to go on the 12 noon sailing on the Sabrina River Boat where we will have a 45 minute cruise with live commentary on the River Severn Loop,  along with tea/coffee and biscuits. You will then have free time in Shrewsbury to shop or visit places of interest.  We will be leaving to come home at 5.30pm – Cost £10 for HALDS members, £15 for Non HALDS – All money to be paid by end July

Euro Disney – March 2020 – I am sorry but I do not think the Euro Disney trip will be going ahead, as we only have 16 people interested, I will keep looking into ways we can go.

I am looking at putting on a trip to London/Harry Potter, the cost will be approx £130 per person (exact price will be given once I have definite numbers who want to attend) the cost will include Coach travel, afternoon in Covent Gardens or if you feel adventurous you can go further into London on your own, overnight stay at Holiday Inn Express and visit to Harry Potter, then journey home late afternoon.  The date I am looking at is Wed 2nd October, please let me know if you would be interested in coming along.

Health evening – Wednesday 24th April at 4pm – We will start all together and talk about  Health Issues and about the ALD Nursing team, we will then have a short break with a buffet followed by going into 2 separate rooms for male and female, where they will talk to the guys about breast/testicular cancer awareness etc.

This will be finished by 5.45.  Please let me know asap if you would like to attend this event, so I can confirm with ALD nursing team and order buffet. 

Halton Disability Partnership – Don’t forget if you need any help with PIP forms etc or any other advice on disability rights, you can contact Halton Disability Partnership for help and advice or I can help with form filling.

A reminder also that you are able to get Carer Break funding from Halton Carers Centre, each year, please ensure that you send in your receipts from your previous years funding, then ask them for another Carer Break form.  Also Halton Carers Centre now do their annual reviews on line, so if you receive your review please do not ignore, as to do so, you will be taken off their system as a carer.  If you are not on line, they will still phone you.

Sew Halton are having poppy making sessions for Runcorn Veterans Association, they are making a wall poppy hanging which will be hanging at the end of October.  If you have any red material or red wool to donate, please bring along to our meetings and I will forward onto them.  If you are interested in making the poppys yourself, I have the dates of the meetings which are on a Friday at Sew Halton, Runcorn Shopping City

We spoke about ways forward for HALDS, with the group growing in numbers (which is a good thing) it gets to a stage where its too big for a voluntary group, so I am going to be looking into funding for employ an administrator to organise our social events, book coaches etc. More about this later in the year

Also I mentioned about having smaller sub groups if anyone has a particular interest, crafts, visits to local places of interest etc, they could start up their own group with my help.  These groups would be self run, so HALDS would not book coaches etc.  We can discuss this in more detail at the AGM, so if you feel you would like to start up a sub group, please let me know before AGM.

March Newsletter

For our February meeting we had 2 speakers Fiona from Hugh Jones Solicitors, who came to talk to us about Wills and Trust funds and also Wendy from Halton Libraries who told us about a Sonic Workshop they are putting on for Adults with Learning Disabilities in the libraries

Fiona talked to us about protecting vunerable people when leaving them money etc in your will and how it can affect their benefits.  She talked to us about setting up a Discresionary Trust Fund.  Fiona will be coming to Halton in April to visit HALDS members in their homes, this is to talk about the Trust Funds and setting up the fund.  At present I have 4 members names on my list, if you would like Fiona to visit you, please let me know by end of next week, to enable me to arrange the visit.  If you would like to speak to Fiona her contact telephone number is 0161 819 7444

Wendy from Halton Libraries came to tell us about a Supersonic Sounds Workshop for adults with additional needs. Date have changed for Runcorn Library and its now March 27th at 1.30 – 3pm and not Wed 13th March as previously advised. Widnes Library stays the same Wed 20th March  10.30pm – 12. Discover how to sculpt with sound and create your own piece of sonic art. You do not need any musical training to become a musician; you just have to make a noise!  .

Funding

Brendas coffee morning raised £300 in total towards HALDS funds and Sharon & Andrews sponsored swim raised  £372 for HALDS funds. Many thanks to you all for taking time out to raise funds for our group.

We have also been awarded £2,500 from Alfred Shaw Trust for carer breaks.        Alfred Shaw trust has awarded us twice in the past, so I have invited Joan Ford, Programmes Manager at Alfred Shaw Trust to our meeting in May, where she will come along to meet you all and find out more about the group.

We have also been awarded £10k from the National Lottery, which should be going into our bank within the next couple of weeks.  This is to last us until June 2020.

Sadly our Birthday party was cancelled due to lack of support, only 23 tickets had been sold.  Members who had purchased tickets had their money re-imbursed.

Kerrie & Vera are holding bingo sessions on a Tuesday evening at Halton Brook Community Centre, ticket sales start at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Part of the proceeds will be coming to HALDS. There will be an Easter Bingo with Kerrie & Vera on Tuesday 16th April at Halton Brook Community Centre  

Save your slummy for HALDS – I will keep you posted each month on the totals for Save your slummy for HALDS, at present it stands at £103.30, please keep the jars coming in and then taking an empty one home.

 £5 non refundable deposit is now being taken for any events you put your name down for, the balance is then due by end of month prior to social event taking place.

Coronation street tour, Saturday 23rd March 2019 – This is now all booked and paid for.  Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus Station at11.20 and Widnes Stobart Stadium 11.30 for 1pm tour.  Tour lasts approximately 80 minutes.  We will then allow time for shop/café leaving to come home 4pm. Please note there is no food or drink allowed on the tour, except for bottled water and only handbags (which will be checked) are allowed on site.

We do have other ideas for social events, i.e. day trip to Shrewsbury with a river boat trip in September and many more.  Now we have received funding I will start arranging more social events, which will be known by the next meeting in March ,

I have been asked if HALDS would organise another Eurodisney trip, so I have enquired at Cogo Travel and have the following details:

As before the price includes coach pick up from Runcorn on 14th March, overnight stay at Dover with Dinner and Breakfast, ferry Dover to Calais, 4 nights in Sequoia Hotel with breakfast and 3 day passes for Disney.   Returning home same route staying again at Dover with dinner and breakfast.  I have been assured by COGO that when booking an accessible room, these will be allocated by the  Sequoia Hotel on booking.

Halton Carers Centre Forum – On Thursday 7th March, Halton Carers Centre and Halton Borough Council are holding a Forum at The Stadium, Widnes, 9.30 – 2pm. There will be multiple agencies from across the borough providing information to carers, including HALDS who are also putting on a stand.  This will be a very informative forum and its your chance to have your say on what Carers want/require in Halton.  Agenda for the day as follows:

12.45 –          Lunch and continuing to browse information stands

Health evening – Wednesday 24th April at 5.15pm – (To be confirmed) – This would be for your cared for and would be sessions around breast awareness and testicular examination.  Menopause, smears and men’s health issues will also be discussed and how the health team can help and who they can refer you too.   This will be at Laburnum Grove and will be in 2 separate rooms (Male & Female to save embarrassment) Please let me know if you would be interested in coming along to this event.

Sew Halton are having poppy making sessions for Runcorn Veterans Association, they are making a wall poppy hanging which will be hanging at the end of October.  If you have any red material or red wool to donate, please bring along to our meetings and I will forward onto them.  If you are interested in making the poppys yourself, I have the dates of the meetings which are on a Friday at Sew Halton, Runcorn Shopping City

 

 

 

 

 

 

January 2019 newsletter

I hope you all had a good Christmas break and looking forward to 2019 and all what it has to offer you and yours.  We have social events planned for HALDS, but a lot depends on funding.  We have received £350 from Cheshire Community Foundations and a donation of £200 from Sheila Monks cousin, so we are going into 2019 with about £1,400 approx.  I have applied for funding of £10,000 from The Lottery Awards for All, but this can take up to 12 weeks.

We are having a few fund raising events to raise funds for HALDS.  Brenda Hayes has kindly offered to do a coffee morning at her house at Wicksten Drive on Monday 4th February 10am – 12 noon, which will include a raffle, bingo with tea & biscuits.

Also Sharon Hearty and Andrew are going to swim a mile (60 lengths approx) at Kingsway Baths on Friday 8th February, I will have sponsor forms at the next meeting

Kerrie & Vera hold bingo sessions on a Tuesday evening at Halton Brook Community Centre, ticket sales start at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. For 2019 they are kindly donating some of the proceeds to HALDS.

We start off HALDS social events with our trip to Theatre Clwyd, details as follows:

Theatre Clwyd Rock’n’Roll panto Dick Whittington – Fri 11th January 2019.    Coach will be leaving Widnes Stobart Stadium at 5.30.  Runcorn Old Town Bus station 5.45.

HALDS Bowling sessions – The next HALDS bowling session will be Mon 14th January, meeting at 10.20am at Widnes Bowling Centre, cost is 5.95 which includes 2 games bowls, bacon butty and tea/coffee.  We will be running the bowling sessions on the 2nd Monday of every month.  Dates for future bowling:

February will be our birthday celebrations, which will be discussed at our committee meeting on Monday 14th January.  It could be a meal out, but unfortunately you will have to pay for your own meal.  Details at January meeting 

Grease – Wed 27th February at Brindley Studios, this will be a showing of the film Grease in the studios with dance floor for the guys to dance along to Grease songs.  At present I do not know any costs, so will send out e-mails etc once I have more details.

Coronation street tour, Saturday 23rd March 2019 – Cost will be £15 for HALDS members, £35 for non HALDS.  Coach will be leaving 11.30 for 1pm tour.  Tour lasts approximately 80 minutes.  We will then allow time for shop/café leaving to come home 3.45ish. Please note there is no food or drink allowed on the tour, except for bottled water and only handbags (which will be checked) are allowed on site. Money to be paid by end Feb

Tramway Village, Matlock – Sat 27th April – Cost £10 – Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 9am.

Birmingham Sea Life Centre/Shopping Birmingham city centre – Sat 18th May – £15 for HALDS members, we will be leaving Runcorn 9am and Birmingham for home about 5pm

December newsletter

Just a short newsletter this month, we are all very busy in HALDS at the moment, with holidays to Eurodisney & Marlborough Hotel, plus Christmas parties etc. Once Christmas is over, I will send out an end of year newsletter, with a host of new social events for 2019.

By the time we reach 2019 HALDS funds will be low, I have put in for funding from Awards for All, but this takes a few months before we hear whether we have been successful or not. In place of a meeting in November, we held our Christmas fair which raised £428.05 towards our funds and Sharon & Andrew will be completing their sponsored swim in February, date to be confirmed. I have also heard that pending meeting their criteria we have been awarded funding from Cheshire Community foundation of £350.

Just a few reminders of events for December:
Monday 3rd December – Halton British Legion Christmas disco 7pm. Only for those members who have completed forms and returned to Jean Fish
Mary Poppins on Ice – Sun 9th Dec – Departing Runcorn Old Town Bus Station only at 10am. We have 2 coaches, so on arrival at the Bus station, I will be giving out envelopes with Coach Number and your tickets. If you are unable to attend please let me know as early as possible, to enable me to try and get someone else to take your tickets.
HALDS Christmas party – Friday 14th Dec, all welcome, no charge, no raffles, just come along and have fun with Adam our resident DJ, party games etc. We will also be having our Bowling prize giving during the evening. We will also be celebrating Phillip Wakefields 18th birthday during the evening.
Chester Zoo Lantern Parade – Wed 19th December, 7.30pm. Please meet by ticket booths at 7.20pm

November Newsletter

Our speakers for Octobers meeting were Beth & Pam from Halton Health Improvement Team who came to talk to us about a Healthy Halton.  They explained that there are 3 groups, Start Well – which is for children, Live Well – Helping adults lead healthier lifestyles and Age Well – Supporting Healthy and active ageing.

There are numerous groups within the Health Improvement Teams and you can contact them for any of the following:

Stop Smoking Service – No referral needed from a doctor, the team offers Free support and advice to anyone who wants to stop smoking

Age Well exercise sessions for the over 50s – Exercise and home safety advice for people who have fallen or are at risk of falling.

Specialised Exercise Classes – If you have heart or respiratory problems or have had a stroke or cancer, our specialised Exercise on referral classes are designed to build confidence, improve quality of life and help you return to carrying out daily activities

NHS Health Checks – if you are aged 40 – 74 you may be eligible to a Free NHS Health Check, which checks blood pressured, diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease and your risk of stroke and dementia

Mental Health – Through high profile campaigns, training and events, we aim to get people in Halton talking about their mental health and challenging the stigma of mental health

Weight Management – Fresh Start, 10 weekly fitness & health sessions lasting 90 minutes per session that includes a weight in, nutritional chat and fitness session.

The fund raising evening we held on Friday 5th October was a good success and £267 was raised towards HALDS funds.  Thank you to all that supported the fund raising evening.

Sharon Hearty and Andrew Telford are going to be swimming for HALDS in a sponsored swim at Kingsway Baths, this will be held next year, will advise a date once arranged.

Bingo – Kerrie & Vera run a bingo each Tuesday at Halton Brook Community Centre and money raised goes to charities, for 2019 they have kindly nominated HALDS as their chosen charity.  If you would like to go along to any of the sessions starting in January, they are a Tuesday evening at 7pm for eyes down at 7.30.

John Llorca has kindly donated a  used LG 43”  TV he no longer requires so he has donated it to HALDS to raffle, raffle tickets are now being sold  and will be drawn at the Christmas Fair on Monday 19th November.  £1 a ticket

Funding – We have not been successful with the funding from NHS, but we still have funding bids out in the community and I will be bidding for funding from Awards for All in the next couple of weeks.

Christmas Fair – Our next meeting on Monday 19th November will be our Christmas Fair, please invite friends and family to this event.  There will be a variety of stalls selling Christmas gifts, a Christmas raffle and lunch. HALDS will be hosting a Christmas Stall, Tombola and a White Elephant.

If you have any items for the HALDS tombola, please could I have them before the event.  PLEASE DO NOT BRING ALONG TO THE CHRISTMAS FAIR, as they have to have tickets put on them.  Any items for the Christmas stall can be brought on the day. 

Sing A Long Greatest Showman – Brindley Studios on Monday 19th November starting 7pm. Could I please have everyone there seated by 6.50 at the latest as film will start 7pm prompt.  Cost is £7 per person. This is for HALDS members and their friends and family. Money due by end October.  We will have a dance floor at the back for the guys who want to dance along to the film. This event is now fully booked up.  Refreshments can be pre-ordered before the evening, Prices as follows:

            Bottled water £0.50

            Fizzy bottled drinks £2

            Sweets £2.50 (Maltesers, Wine gums, fruit pastilles or Minstrels

            Popcorn £2

            Ice Cream £2 – during interval (Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Mint, Honey Comb or Caramel

Eurodisney – 24th November 2018 – All details are now finalised and e-mails have been sent out with details.  I now have invoices if you require one for Direct payments/respite audits or for your Carer Break Funding.

Mary Poppins on Ice – Sun 9th Dec – Departing Runcorn Old Town Bus Station only at 10am, will have lunch at 12 noon at the Pleasure Beach, then walk across to the Ice rink for the show at 2.30  This show is now fully booked up. For those who never gave me your food choices, I have ordered Fish & chips for you.

Cost of the coach is £15 per person.   We would arrive Friday afternoon and cost includes Friday evening meal through to Sunday lunch.  We would then leave Llandudno Sunday afternoon for journey home.  All guests will receive a Christmas gift from Santa.  Please let me know if you would like to come along to this weekend away.  All Money due by end October .

I am looking at booking a Backstage tour of Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool in January.  I have spoken to the group organiser and for a group tour a minimum of 35 people are required and it would be a Thursday, if you would be interested in attending this tour could you please let me know, so I have an idea of numbers.

February will be our birthday celebrations, depending on funding it  could be a meal on canal in Chester or a Birthday Party at Laburnum.

Could I please ask that I be contacted via e-mail if possible, as I am receiving messages via e-mail, facebook, messenger, by person and texts and its getting very confusing and things can be missed off.

I am looking for suggestions for speakers for 2019, we have January booked at present and I have contacted Fire Safety to come along, but do not have any other speakers in mind at present

Quite a few members have approached me about the lunches at the meetings, a few people are piling up their plates and not leaving enough for other members, I have asked Quigleys to provide more savouries, but this is a light lunch for you, not a banquet so please think of others when serving yourselves.  A suggestion has been made for someone to actually dish out the lunches, but at present I do not want this to happen.

 Our speaker for Septembers meeting was Jane Catt from Halton Healthwatch, who came along to talk to us about Healthwatch Halton.  Halton Healthwatch gather and represent the view of the public on doctors, dentist & hospitals, both good and bad. If you have had any good or bad experiences at any of the above, please contact Halton Healthwatch on 0300 777 6543 or enquiries@healthwatchhalton.co.uk.  If you would like to sign up for their monthly newsletter (e-mail only) please let me know and I will ask them to put you on their mailing list.  I am going to be asking for more leaflets about Healthwatch and should have these at our next meeting

Fund Raising Evening – We are holding a fund raising evening on Friday 5th October, 7.30pm – HOY and Rock ‘n’ Bingo.  We will have music from our resident DJ Adam and a raffle, tickets are now on sale 3pound each

Christmas Fair – We are also holding a Christmas Fair on Monday 19th November, if you know anyone who would like a stall at this event, please let me know.  HALDS will be having tombola and a Christmas Stall this event

I am looking for donations for the raffles at both events and also for our tombola stall.

Sing A Long Greatest Showman – We are having a showing of the film Greatest Showman – Sing-along version – at the Brindley Studios on Monday 19th November at 7pm. Cost is 7 Pound per person. Eurodisney – 24th November 2018 – Well what can I say, nearly all paid up, just still need your passport number, name as it appears on passport, travel insurance company, policy number and emergency contact number for insurance company.  I can then get all finalised with COGO travel.  COGO travel are incorporating the cost of the Paris by Night tour in the 525, but I am still going to take the 6.50 each from people as a deposit and this will be given back to you on the coach to Paris.

Cost of the coach is 15 Pound per person.   We would arrive Friday afternoon and cost includes Friday evening meal through to Sunday lunch.  We would then leave Llandudno Sunday afternoon for journey home.  All guests will receive a Christmas gift from Santa.  Please let me know if you would like to come along to this weekend away.  All Money due by end October .  Due to the number of people travelling on the coach, HALDS is subsidising the coach costs with 175 Pound to help keep our cost down for the travel.

Theatre Clwyd Rock’n’Roll panto Dick Whittington – Fri 11th January 2019.  Cost £10 for HALDS members.  Theatres in Clywd now have HYNT cards to enable carers to go free with their paying cared for.  Therefore if you apply for a free HYNT card (which can be used all over Wales in their theatres) the cost for 1 carer for this show will be free, you will only pay for your cared for £10.  If you could please bring your HYNT card to the Oct meeting as I need these to enable me to book free places

Marlborough Hotel – Sept 20th 2019 –  3 nights 140 Pound – Please let me know if you may be interested in coming along.

Its that time of year again ‘Winter’ and flu jabs time, please note carers and people with disabilities do NOT have to pay for flu jabs, please ask your doctor for these jabs.  Also don’t forget about ‘Care in the Chemist’ where you do not have to pay for routine medicines, I have some leaflets about ‘Care in the Chemist’

Grove House Practice patients – From 1st Oct 2018 Paper prescriptions can only be collected from the Grove House Practice Site.   I have leaflets about this change.

GP Extra – I have some new leaflets for the GP Extra service showing the telephone number (the last ones we had didn’t have a contact telephone number on them)  In Runcorn the medical centre used is Heath Road, this is for ALL doctors surgeries in Runcorn  and Widnes patients go to the Health Care Resource Centre, Oaks Place, Caldwell Rd, Widnes  and again this covers all practices in Widnes.   The Runcorn GP Extra service now offers 2 nurses on a Tuesday & Thursday evening who can carry out all services offered at your practices i.e. ear syringing, holiday jabs, smears etc.   Jane who is the ALD nurse at Tower House is also at the Heath Road Practice on a Tuesday for routine and emergency appointments.  The GP Extra service is not for emergencies only, you can pre-book routine appointments of an evening and a weekend, you can also if you say live in Widnes and work in Runcorn, you can use the Runcorn Heath Road Practice and vice versa.

We have so much on between now and Christmas, I hope members do not think HALDS is overtaking their life!!!!
