Newsletter – April 2014

Speaker – This month we invited along Hugh Jones, Solicitor who gave an very interesting talk on Discretionary Trust funds and how it’s a way of leaving money in your will for your cared for, without it affecting their benefits etc. I have some leaflets and business cards with his details, if anyone would like further information from him, or would like to him to organise a discretionary trust for you. He does home visits for no extra cost. There is further information on HALDS website.

Funding – I had applied for £2,000 funding from HBC for our monthly meetings, newsletters and overhead costs, they have granted us £1,580 towards these costs, I have not heard from Boshier-Hinton Foundation for social events, but will keep you posted

As previously advised Pat Wright put us forward for funding from her insurance company Engage Mutual. People have to vote for us to get this funding and voting started on 8th April and goes through to 31st May, please take the time to vote for HALDS and ask friends and family to do the same. Pathway to vote is http://www.engagemutual.com then click on Foundation, click on Community awards, Location is North West, then click into HALDS. You will need to register your name etc, just follow the links. Spread the word to friends and family, the more votes and more chance we have of winning

Hospital visit – If you have to take your cared for, for a hospital appointment or they are being admitted as a day case or even as an emergency, please inform Lucia Urquhart at Halton Carers Centre 01928 580182. Lucia will inform PALS of your pending appointment and this will help when being admitted. We have recently had a member whose cared for went in as a day case, Lucia had informed PALS beforehand, when they arrived at 8am, they were told they were expected, and were took straight to the bed and booked in. The whole day went smoothly with no hick ups. The doctor had even suggested if they wanted, they could have had a tour of the theatre etc. to make things easier for them all.
