I hope you have all enjoyed your summer break and looking forward to HALDS meetings/social calendar between Sept – December 2014. We have some informative speakers coming along during Sept & October. If you haven’t been to a meeting for a while or not at all, please come along and give us a try, I am sure you will be pleased with what is on offer and the information we have for you., or if members have any friends who you may think would benefit from HALDS please let them know about us.

It’s with sadness I have to advise that future trips will still cost £5, but where money has been paid out for tickets etc, I am going to have to ask for full amount when putting down your name, this will then be refunded on the day when you come along to the event. Over the last 2 events (Lion King & Coronation Street) we have wasted approx. £200 due to members not turning up for events, which would have paid for a lunch out. I know things can happen which could prevent you attending, but a simple phone call to advise before hand, would enable me to see if anyone else wants to attend, we had a waiting list for Lion King.

Our next events Bowling/Lunch and Dobies/Lunch there will be no extra charge as costs will be paid on the day and not in advance. Though you will loose your £5 if you do not turn up to the event, as transport will have been booked for you and also £5 deposits paid

Monday 22nd September – Bowling and lunch in Widnes, please meet at Widnes Bowling at 10.45, were will be have a game of bowls followed by lunch at Brewers Fayre at 12.30.

Monday 1st December – Trip to Dobies and Toby Carvery – Cost will be £5 for HALDS members – Pick up times will be Runcorn Old Town Bus Station 9.45 and Widnes Stobart Stadium 9.50. As our trip last time, we will head down to Dobies and then onto Toby Carvery for a carvery. We will be leaving to come home at 2pmish – All monies to be paid by Octobers meeting

Anderton Boat Lift Xmas cruise – Saturday 13th December – Cost £5 for HALDS members and their cared for. Coach will be leaving Widnes Stobart Stadium at 12.10 and Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 12.20. We are booked on the 1.30 cruise which lasts about 1 hour. Afterwards we will go to The Riverside at Action Bridge for a meal. I have now booked the trip with the Anderton Boat Lift & Riverside for people who have put their names down. I will have the meal choices at the next meeting for people to decide on their menu for the meal. – All monies to be paid by September 29th meeting

HALDS Christmas Party – Friday 19th December – We will be holding a xmas party at Mencap Acorn Centre, Laburnum Grove, Runcorn (were we have our meetings) there will be no cost, but you do need a ticket for admission, as we are limited to 80 people, this is just for HALDS members, their cared fors AND friends and family who have supported us over the years. Please bring along your own food and drink (alcohol permitted).

If you are attending any trips, I will give dates for any monies to be paid, it is your responsibility to ensure you have paid, if payments are not received by the given date, tickets/bookings will not be purchased for you or your tickets will be given to other members.

Meeting Monday 29th September – Our guest speakers for the September meeting is Lucia Urquart – Hospital Link worker and Lisa Horrocks GP Link worker both from Halton Carers Centre. Lucia will be speaking about hospital issues and also the Health Passport.

Meeting Monday 27th October – I have asked the Learning Disability Nursing Team to come along, I am waiting for their reply, so yet is not confirmed.

Christmas Extravaganza – Monday 24th November – In place of our Christmas Market place which we normally hold, we will be holding a Christmas Extravaganza this will still include stalls selling gifts and Christmas goodies, but will also entail Holistic therapies in a separate room. Up to now we have someone coming along to give Reiki, Angel Card readings, seated massages, reflexology. I am also looking at having manicures, pedicures etc. Let me know if you have any other ideas. Also I need tombola prizes for HALDS stall, if you have prizes which are suitable, if you could please start brining them to the meetings starting September.

Mayors charity for 2014/15 – One of the mayors charities for this year is the Halton Carers Centre. The carers centre are inviting support groups as their guests to go along to mayors events, we are invited to attend the Irish Night on Saturday 14th March 2015 at the Select Stadium, Widnes, this is limited to 10 people, if you would like to attend please let me have your names

Warm Home discount – Now is the time to start approaching your electricity supplier to register your claim for a £140 warm home discount, to claim you have to be in receipt of one of the following:
Income Support, Income related employment and support allowance, Income based job seekers allowance or your gross annual household income is less than £16,190

And also One of the following qualifying components:
Disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium or Disability Living allowance, Personal Independence payments or long term incapacity benefit

If you would like more details, please given me a ring and I will explain how I claim back from my supplier.

Suggestions for future social events were Bourne Poacher, cinema & pizza, salsa lessons, Barn Dance, quiz night at Beechwood Pub and games events, Manchester Ship Canal cruise. I will keep you posted.

I also need suggestions for future speakers for 2015, please let me have your ideas of what you would like discussed at the meetings.

Do you enjoy singing? – If so, come along to the Halton Community Choir (originally RAW Singers) we are starting on 2nd September at Churchill Hall, Runcorn at 7.30, cost is £4 per session
