NEWSLETTER –February 2017
In place of a speaker at Januarys meeting, we had a general catch up going over information we have had speakers for over the past years, to jog memories and also inform new members who have joined us over the past 12 months. There is far too many to go into details in the newsletter, but I always have a folder with all information if you would like to look through it. The outcome of which we will be asking the following to come to speak to HALDS members at one of our meetings, Andrea Holland, Direct Payments. Hugh Jones Solicitor on Wills and Trust funds, we will also be putting together a small forum where we will be asking people to set up stalls which are to do with your caring role i.e. agencies, HBC etc. Maybe looking at June for the forum.
Funding – I have applied for funding from Co-op, but we will not hear whether we are successful until April and I have also applied to the Masonic Charitable Foundation for £500, which will be reviewed at their next meeting mid January and we should hear mid February on whether we where successful on this bid. I have also applied to 4 other funders for funding for our group, I have also applied for funding from the Halton Borough Councils Area Forum this was to cover costs for Emmerdale and also printer cartridges and postage stamps, I will keep you updated on our success.
If you need a copy of the Bond Hotel or Eurodisney invoices for Direct Payments purposes please let me know and I will print off a copy for you.
If you have changed your telephone numbers or e-mail address or you now have an e-mail address for contact please let me have the new details, it makes it easier when advising of any changes between meetings or new social events which are taking place.

Wed 15th Feb – Old Dock Experience/museums/lunch – Cost will be £5 for HALDS & Non Halds members, but non HALDS members to pay for their own meal. Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus station 9.15am, we are booked for the 10.30am tour , after the tour, you will have free time at the museums, we leave museums at 1pm for lunch at the Greenhills Pub at 1.30. We will be home 4ish. Please let me have your monies if not already paid
Mon 20th February – 7th Birthday lunch – We are going to go out for lunch on to celebrate HALDS 7th birthday, venue will be The Old Hall, Frodsham at 12.30. Please let me know asap if you would like to attend. Cost will be £5 for HALDS members, full cost of meal for non-members, £15.95 for 2 courses, £18.95 for 3 course plus coffee at £2.50 I have the selection of menu, if you could please let me know your choice of menu by 10th February to enable me to let the Old Hall know our choices.

Fri 24th February – Body Shop party fund raising evening – at Mencaps Acorn Centre, Laburnum Grove, Runcorn, we will having a Body Shop party, no entrance charge, HALDS will receive 10% cash on all sales, plus any monies made on the raffle (Body Shop donating the prizes). There will 2 demonstrations a facial & make up, their will be a taster table, where guests can give each other or yourself facials and try out the make up all Body Shop products. We come along and support HALDS at this event
Wed 8th March The Wiz, Brindley Theatre, , this is an upbeat version of the Wizard of Oz, Cost for HALDS members £5, Non HALDS £16, show starts at 7.30 so please meet in foyer 7pm where tickets will be handed out.
Sat 11th March – Eurodisney –for 5 days, this trip is now booked and deposits paid, For members attending Eurodisney a separate notice will be sent to you with all information about the trip.
Sat 25th March – St Asaph Mill/Bodelwydden Castle this will be a full day event. Coach will be leaving Runcorn at 9.30, ,first calling at Bodelwyddan Castle for a self guided tour of the castle and grounds, leaving Bodelwyddan at 2pm, proceeding to St Asaph Mill for shopping. Back to Runcorn 6.30pmish Cost will be £5
Mon 10th April – Tour of St Georges Hall, Liverpool/lunch, Cost £5 for all, but non HALDS to pay for their own meal, Coach leaving Runcorn old town bus station 10am, Widnes Stobart Stadium 10.10am. Tour of St Georges Hall booked for 11am, we will have 2 hours at St Georges Hall, leaving at 1pm to go to Greenhills Pub for carvery lunch which is booked for 1.30. Estimate arrival back in Runcorn 3.30/4ish.
Thursday 20th April – Billy & Wally show, Brindley, Runcorn – If you would like tickets for this show please let me know cost is £10 for HALDS members £20 for non members
Fri 12th May – Marlborough Hotel, Llandudno, full weekend event, from Friday 12th May till Monday 15th, cost £160 per person, but we do have lottery funding to put towards this weekend away, please let me know if interested. If you are wanting to come along to Llandudno weekend, could you please let me know by 10th February as I need to finalise the actual cost. Deposits are also required of £50 per person., balance by end March please make cheques payable to The Marlborough Hotel.
Mon 5th June – Tour Lowry/Shopping in Lowry Outlet – Leaving Runcorn Old Town bus station 10am, Widnes Stobart Stadium 10.10am. 11am tour of Lowry , this includes a guided tour of The Lowry building where you will discover some quirky facts about The Lowrys design and development along with a brief history of the Manchester Ship Canal from docks to a new leisure destination. You will then have a tour of the Galleries, where you can learn more about their namesake LS Lowry with an introduction to the man and his work, followed by free time in the Lowry Outlet. Estimate time back in Runcorn 4.30pm – Cost £5
Sat 16th Sept – Emmerdale visit – We will going to be visiting Emmerdale on, coach will be leaving Runcorn at 8.30am for a full day event. Firstly we visit the Emmerdale village, where we are booked on the tour at 10am, it’s an hour and half tour of the village followed by 30 mins leisure time. We then proceed for a half hour journey to the Emmerdale Experience in Leeds. You will have a couple of hours for lunch, we are then booked on the 2.10pm tour, which lasts 75 minutes. Arrival time back in Runcorn 5.30pmish. Cost for the full day event will be £10 for HALDS members and £50 for non members.
Wicked – Empire Theatre, Liverpool March 2018 – tickets become on sale for group bookings today for Wicked at the Liverpool Empire Theatre, if you are interested in coming along, could you please let me know asap, to enable me to reserve the seats
We will be holding another fund raising evening on Friday 7th July, where will be having rock ‘n’ bingo and other games – more details next month
Sharon Hearty has kindly offered to partake in a fund raising event for HALDS, she proposes to walk up the Great Orme when we are in Llandudno, to the summit and back 3 times over the weekend of Friday 12th May. All proceeds are to go to the HALDS group. Please either sponsor her on our general form, or please if you can take a form to ask family and friends to sponsor her.
I am looking at putting together a list of trusted tradespersons that HALDS members have had and know they are trustworthy, do a good job, clean up after themselves and do not overcharge. Therefore if you have had any jobs done at home and can recommend the person, please let me know
Taxis charges over the bridges – When the bridges become tolls, Halton taxis are going to be charged £4 for going over the bridge, which they will have to pass onto the customer. If the customer is a Halton resident, to reclaim their monies they have to go along to Halton Link and reclaim their £4. This will have an impact on vulnerable people, as during the day the majority of people who use taxis are elderly or disabled, these people are now going to have the added expense of having to go along to the Halton Link to reclaim their monies. Apec taxis are asking people to write a letter of complaint about these charges to Halton Borough Council. Please help support the vulnerable residents of Halton by writing a letter and sending to Halton Borough Council, Town Hall, Runcorn, Cheshire. Many thanks
July/August – Stadium tours – We are looking at putting on tours for Manchester United Old Trafford Ground and Liverpool Stadium tour. If you are interested in attending these events please let me know, to enable me to see numbers interested.

The Manchester United Museum & Tour Centre have teamed up with City Centre Cruises to give fans the chance to enjoy a Leisure Cruise Tour.
This unique package is available to book now and allows visitors the chance to take a canal barge from Manchester city centre and around the Salford Quays area before embarking on a Museum visit and tour of Old Trafford.
As part of the price, souvenir museum guides will be issued by the Museum tour official who will greet visitors on the barge in Castlefield.
For both tours, transport will pick up and drop off at Runcorn Old Town Bus Station
