APRIL NEWSLETTER

For this months meeting we had a first aid session with British Red Cross, we covered what to do in the event of heart attacks, seizures, strokes, head cuts, broken  bones, choking etc.  It was very interesting with plenty of hands on interactive sessions

Funding – We have now received the £1,046.50 from Halton Borough Council Area Forum funding which is to pay towards our Emmerdale trip.

Wed 26th April – Funding raising pamper evening/make up party with Karl Llorca with Arbonne products. Door open 7pm and the party will start at 7.30pm Refreshments will be sold on the evening, There will be a raffle, where Karl will be a providing raffle prize, all proceeds to go towards HALDS funds

Sharon Hearty has kindly offered to partake in a fund raising event for HALDS, she proposes to walk up the Great Orme when we are in Llandudno, to the summit and back 3 times over the weekend of Friday 12th May.  All proceeds are to go to the HALDS group.  Please either sponsor her on our general form, or please if you can take a form to ask family and friends to sponsor her.

The next meeting in April will be our AGM at 1pm followed by a surprise fun session.  As the posts are coming to the end of a 2 year posting period, all posts are up for the takings at the AGM, these being Chairperson, Secretary & Treasurer, we will also be looking for committee members to meet on a quarterly basis, someone to do teas and coffees at the meeting and also help at the meetings taking money and issuing receipts. If you would like to put either yourself  or propose another member for any of the posts please let me know before AGM.  

Our next social event is on Monday 10th April, which is a Tour of St Georges Hall, Liverpool/lunch, Cost £5 for all, but non HALDS to pay for their own meal, Coach leaving Runcorn old town bus station 10am, Widnes Stobart Stadium 10.10am.  Tour of St Georges Hall booked for 11am, we will have 2 hours at St Georges Hall, leaving at 1pm to go to Greenhills Pub for carvery lunch which is booked for 1.30.  Estimate arrival back in Runcorn 3.30/4ish.  

Thursday 20th April – Billy & Wally show – tickets are now purchased for this show, show starts at 7pm so please meet in foyer from 6.30 to get your tickets.

12th May – Marlborough Hotel, Llandudno, The weekend away is now all booked and deposits paid, this is a full weekend event, from Friday 12th May till Monday 15th, Cost is £85 for the weekend plus £15 for the coach.  Balance of payments required by end March, please make cheques payable to The Marlborough Hotel.  If you could please let me have the coach money separate in cash. Pick up times from Widnes Stobart stadium is 1pm and Runcorn Old Town Bus station 1.10pm.  We should be arriving at Hotel 2.30 approx. where we will be served afternoon tea.  For those going in their own cars, the hotel has asked me to ask if you could you please let me know your estimated time of arrivalBALANCE OF MONEY DUE BY 31st MARCH, I WILL NOT BE CHASING IF NOT PAID YOU HAVE LOST YOUR PLACE AND YOUR DEPOSIT WILL BE REFUNDED

Mon 5th June – Tour Lowry/Shopping in Lowry Outlet –  Leaving Runcorn Old Town bus station 10am, Widnes Stobart Stadium 10.10am.  11am tour of Lowry , this includes a guided tour of The Lowry building where you will discover some quirky facts about The Lowrys design and development along with a brief  history of the Manchester Ship Canal from docks to a new leisure destination.  You will then have a tour of the Galleries, where you can learn more about their namesake LS Lowry with an introduction to the man and his work, followed by free time in the Lowry Outlet.   Estimate time back in Runcorn 4.30pm – Cost is £5, there are still places available for this trip. – All monies to be paid by end May  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME ON THIS TRIP PLEASE LET ME KNOW, AS LOWRY AS ASKING FOR NUMBERS AND FOR PAYMENT. 

St Asaph Mill/Bodelwydden Castle – Saturday 10th June, this will be a full day event.  Coach will be leaving Runcorn at 9.30, first calling at Bodelwyddan Castle for a self guided tour of the castle and grounds, leaving Bodelwyddan at 2pm, proceeding to St Asaph Mill for shopping.  Back to Runcorn 6.30pmish Cost will be £5  – All money to be paid by end May

Friday 7th July – Fund raising games evening – Rock ‘n’ Roll bingo and Play your cards right, bring own drink and supper – doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start

Sunday 16th July – Summer evening cruise on Mersey – A 2 hour evening cruise which features live music, a licensed bar and spectacular views of Liverpool’s unique world heritage waterfront. Boarding at Seacombe, Wirral at 7.30pm ,   Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 6pm and returning home 10.30pm approx.  Cost is £10 per person,  sorry no under 18s allowed due to licensing restrictions.  Please let me know if you would like to attend this event. Emmerdale visit – We will going to be visiting Emmerdale on Saturday 16th September, coach will be leaving Runcorn at 8.30am for a full day event.  Firstly we visit the Emmerdale village, where we are booked on the tour at 10.30am, it’s a hour and half tour of the village.  We then leave the village about 1pm  for a half hour journey to the Emmerdale Experience in Leeds.   We are booked on the 2.10pm tour, which lasts 75 minutes.  Cost for the full day event will be £10 for HALDS members and £50 for non members.   Money to be paid by end July – Due to numbers increasing  our tours in the afternoon are now 2.10 and 2.20pm so arrival back to Runcorn will be 6pm/6.30pmish.  Don’t know where we will fit lunch in, maybe take a packed lunch with you and get a drink at either Village or Experience

Friday 3rd Nov – Body Shop Christmas shopping party – Fund raising Body Shop party with discounts on Christmas items

Wicked – 12th March 2018,  Empire Theatre, Liverpool  – This trip is now full, cost is £20 for HALDS members and £53 for non members.  All money to be paid by end February 2017 as tickets have to be paid to Empire theatre by early March to reserve our tickets.

Halton Carers Centre – Caring with Confidence Training – an 8 week course to help carers to cope with their caring roles is to start on 7th April 10am – 2pm at Trinity Church, Widnes.  Please contact Halton Carers Centre direct on 01928 580182 if you would like to attend these sessions

Eurodisney – The 38 members who went to Eurodisney in March all had a brilliant time, I have DVDs for sale £5 each with over 170 photos of our holiday, if you would like to purchase a copy please let me know asap, as I need to order more by end of this week.

I am planning on another trip end November 2018 which will cover the Christmas theme in Eurodisney, I am looking at extending the holiday by a 1 day extra in the park, going by eurotunnel and also incorporating a Paris by night tour.  Therefore we would be leaving Runcorn on a Saturday and coming home on the Thursday/Friday.  I will price up the holiday and let you know the price.  In the meantime, please let me know if you are interested in coming

I also have plans in place for the football club visits, a few people have shown interest, please let me know if you are interested in attending Liverpool or Manchester United tours.

PSR – Priority Services Register for older and disabled people with your energy provider. If you sign up to your supplier’s Priority Services Register,  you can get extra help and support with your energy supply.  You can sign up if your are a pensioner, disabled or chronically sick or have a hearing or visual impairment

Help you can get If you’re on the PSR, you could get:

  • free advice on being more energy-efficient
  • protection from cold callers with a password protection scheme to keep you safe
  • your meter moved free of charge if it’s hard for you to use or read the meter
  • a free quarterly meter reading if you can’t read your meter
  • bills sent to a relative, carer or friend to help you check them
  • your bills and meter readings in a braille, large print, audio tape, textphone or typetalk if you’re visually impaired
  • advance notice if your supply is going to be interrupted
  • priority reconnection if your supply is interrupted
  • alternative facilities for cooking and heating if your supply is interrupted
  • extra help to use your meter or appliances
  • annual gas safety checks

Free gas safety checks

To be eligible for an free annual gas safety check, you must own your home and get a means tested benefit such as Pension Credit or Income Support. Also, one of the following must apply:

  • you live alone
  • you live with other adults who are aged over 60, disabled and or chronically sick
  • you live with at least one other child under five

How to sign up

Contact your supplier to see if you’re eligible to sign up to the PSR. If you have different suppliers for gas and electricity, you’ll need to call them both.

You’ll need to register again if you change your energy supplier.
