Andrea Holland from Halton Borough Councils Direct Payment Team came along to our Mays meeting and spoke to the group about your cared for claiming Personal Budgets/Direct Payments.  I have hand outs available about Personal Budgets/Direct Payments if you where unable to make the meeting.  Andrea also advised if you have any questions you can contact her direct on andrea.holland@halton.gov.uk or telephone 0151 511 8217

Funding – I am pleased to announce that we have received £1,500 from the Alfred Shaw Trust for social outings, if you could please let me have any ideas for any social events you would like before our committee meeting on 12th June.  We have also received £1,580 from Halton Borough Council Carer Break funding,  this is to pay for our monthly meetings room hire and refreshments.  I have  applied for Core Cost funding from Garfield Weston & The Tudor Trust., but unfortunately I have received letters from both advising we have not been successful.

Karls pamper evening on 24th April raised £91 towards our funds, many thanks to those who attended.

Sharon Hearty did a sponsored walk for us when we where at Llandudno, she walked up and down the Great Orme each day and raised over £335 for HALDS funds.  Monies are still being collected so will advise final figure when all collected in.

We all had a great weekend in Llandudno and all enjoyed Sundays sponsored walk with Sharon when a number of us congregated on the Orme summit and walked down as a group

For the members who volunteered for our new committee meeting, we will be holding our first committee meeting on Monday 12th June at  12 noon in the back room at Mencap Acorn Building, Laburnum Grove, Runcorn.  Please note change of time, as I have a hospital appointment at 9am on that day and unsure of getting back for 11am, Hope this is okay with everyone

Mon 5th June – Tour Lowry/Shopping in Lowry Outlet –  Leaving Runcorn Old Town bus station 10am, Widnes Stobart Stadium 10.10am.  11am tour of Lowry , this includes a guided tour of The Lowry building where you will discover some quirky facts about The Lowrys design and development along with a brief  history of the Manchester Ship Canal from docks to a new leisure destination.  You will then have a tour of the Galleries, where you can learn more about their namesake LS Lowry with an introduction to the man and his work, followed by free time in the Lowry Outlet.   Estimate time back in Runcorn 4.30pm – There is 1 place still available  for this trip. Cost is £5 

St Asaph Mill/Bodelwydden Castle – Saturday 10th June, this will be a full day event.  Coach will be leaving Runcorn at 9.30, first calling at Bodelwyddan Castle for a self guided tour of the castle and grounds, leaving Bodelwyddan at 2pm, proceeding to St Asaph Mill for shopping.  Back to Runcorn 6.30pmish Cost will be £5  

Friday 7th July – Fund raising games/disco evening – Rock ‘n’ Roll bingo and Play your cards right, with Adams disco, bring own drink and supper – doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start –  We are making a charge for this evening of £3 a ticket, but that will include all games.  We will not be holding a raffle, so the £3 is the full cost of the evening.  I am looking for prizes for games and also for the free raffle, so if you have any suitable please could you bring along to the June meeting.   Tickets are now on sale

Sunday 16th July – Summer evening cruise on Mersey – A 2 hour evening cruise which features live music, a licensed bar and spectacular views of Liverpool’s unique world heritage waterfront. Boarding at Seacombe, Wirral at 7.30pm,   Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 6pm and returning home 10.30pm approx.  Cost is £10 per person,  sorry no under 18s allowed due to licensing restrictions.  Please let me know if you would like to attend this event.  

Emmerdale visit – We will going to be visiting Emmerdale on Saturday 16th September, coach will be leaving Runcorn at 8.30am for a full day event.  Firstly we visit the Emmerdale village, where we are booked on the tour at 10.30am, it’s an hour and half tour of the village.  We then leave the village about 1pm  for a half hour journey to the Emmerdale Experience in Leeds.   We are booked on the 2.10pm tour, which lasts 75 minutes.  Cost for the full day event will be £10 for HALDS members and £50 for non members.   Money to be paid by end July – Due to numbers increasing  our tours in the afternoon are now 2.10 and 2.20pm so arrival back to Runcorn will be 6pm/6.30pmish.  Don’t know where we will fit lunch in, maybe take a packed lunch with u and get a drink at either Village or Experience – This trip is now full

Monday 30th October – Billy & Wallys POP Golden Oldies show at Brindley Theatre, cost £10 each, please let me know by end May if you would like to attend.  Please note once tickets are purchased I will not be purchasing anymore, so please let me know by end May if you would like to attend.  These are great shows, with audience participation throughout.  Good for your wellbeing

Friday 3rd Nov – Body Shop Christmas shopping party – Fund raising Body Shop party with discounts on Christmas items

Friday 9th March 2018 – Weekend at Marlborough Hotel, Llandudno,  All Saints Themed Break, which includes Friday  St Davids Day, Tea/coffee and Bara Brith on arrival, 6.15pm  Sherry Drinks Reception, 6.30 Welsh Feast followed by live entertainment and Light finger buffet at 10.30pm.  Saturday is St Patricks Day which includes 6.15pm Irish Liquor Drinks reception, 6.30 Irish Dinner followed by live entertainment and Light finger buffet at 10.30pm followed by Sunday St Andrews Day which includes 8.30am Traditional Scottish Breakfast, 6.15 Guess the weight of the haggis, 6.30pm Scottish Supper followed by live entertainment and Light finger buffet at 10.30pm . Each evening you will be required to either dress fancy dress for the theme or the colours of the country.

Cost is £140 per person, but this depends on whether we get funding from the BIG lottery next year, if so, price will reduce.  Please let me know if you are interested in this weekend, as I will be booking rooms.

Wicked – 12th March 2018,  Empire Theatre, Liverpool  – This trip is now full, cost is £20 for HALDS members and £53 for non members.  All money to be paid by end February 2017 as tickets have to be paid to Empire theatre by early March to reserve our tickets.    

Eurodisney –  Saturday 24thNov 2018 –  I am looking at prices for another trip to Eurodisney in November 2018, it will be the Christmas theme, we would depart Runcorn Saturday lunchtime and travel down to Dover, staying overnight at Ramada Hotel with evening meal, Sunday morning we will be going via the Eurotunnel to Calais then travelling down to Eurodisney,  followed by 3 days on the park, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, departing Thursday lunchtime for journey back to Dover via Eurotunnel, overnight in Ramada in Dover, with evening meal then returning home Friday.  One of the evenings we will be having an evening tour of Paris by night. Cost at the moment £599 per person based on 2 sharing.  Please let me know if you are interested in this trip to Eurodisney to enable me to see approximate numbers

The Life with Art session which on Monday 8th May was attended by 16 members and was enjoyed by all.  We will be holding more sessions when they next attend B & Q in Widnes (Probably about Sept) and we are going to be having jewellery making session and a painting on silks

Next meeting  Monday 26th June when will be having speakers from the PALS team from Warrington & Halton Hospitals.  I will be on holiday but Liz is going to take the meeting for me.

 

 

Mays newsletter

Mays meetings was our AGM were all the positions where  proposed and seconded as we were at the end of our 2 year period.  Followed by a visit from Palacefields Ukulele band, who provided us with a  good sing song and even had us up dancing .

 

Colin Rotherham proposed and Jacqui Stringer seconded  Bill Tottle to continue being our Chairperson,  Maria Woods proposed and Irene Pendleton seconded for John Llorca to continue as Treasurer and Glenis Holmes proposed and Mo Appleton seconded for Pam Roberts to continue as secretary

 

Our Annual Report was read out and our audited accounts where shown to members attending the meeting.  If you were unable to attend and would like a copy please ask and I will send copies  to you.

 

We asked for volunteers for organising teas and and coffees at  the meetings and Carol and Anna have volunteered for this role.  Many thanks to Jan & Tommy Doyle for sorting out teas and coffees for the past couple of years.  We also have Glenis and Irene who will be taking money and issuing receipts at meetings for monies paid for trips.

 

Funding: – I have applied to Halton Borough Council for our £1,580 which we receive annually for our monthly meetings costs.

 

At todays meetings we took £46 on raffle and sale of cards and handbags given to us by Brenda Hayes,  plus we also had £10 donated by Brenda Hayes from sale of goods she sold for us and also £10 from Brenda Llorca for sale of knitted items. Thank you to both Brendas for their donations.

 

This Wednesday 26th April is our Arbonne Pamper party, which is for both men and woman.  It  will be a good social evening so  please come along and support this event as all proceeds from raffle and refreshments go towards HALDS funds.

 

Monday 8th May, we are having an Art/craft session at the old B & Q building in Widnes 10am – 12 followed by lunch at Bowers Park, there are 2/4 places left if anyone is interested in attending, this is free of charge.

 

12th May – Marlborough Hotel, Llandudno,  Pick up times from Widnes Stobart stadium is 1pm and Runcorn Old Town Bus station 1.10pm.  We should be arriving at Hotel 2.30 approx. where we will be served afternoon tea.  For those going in their own cars, the hotel has asked me to ask if you could you please let me know your estimated time of arrival.

Monday 30th October 2017 Billy & Wally show at Brindley theatre where the theme for the evening is 60s music.  This is a real good feel show with plenty of laughter and singing. Cost is £10 for HALDS members and £22 for non members.

Please let me know by end May if you want to attend, as adding extra tickets has an extra cost of £1 per ticket when purchased separately.

Halton Carers Centre is holding a Tea Dance on Thursday 25th May at Churchill Hall, Cooper Street, Runcorn from 2pm – 4pm.  This will be a fun afternoon learning new dance routines.
