Hi sorry I was unable to be with you for Junes meeting but I was away on my jollys.  Unfortunately our speaker advertised for Junes meeting was unable to attend, so Lucia Urquhart Hospital Liaison worker from Halton Carers Centre came along and spoke to the group about the Carers Centre and how they can help in your caring role, I believe it was a successful meeting.

This Friday  7th July is our  Fund raising games/disco evening – Rock ‘n’ Roll bingo and Play your cards right, with Adams disco, bring own drink and supper – doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start – There is a charge for this evening of £3 a ticket, but that will include all games/free raffle.  The £3 is the full cost of the evening.  If you have any prizes for the games and raffle, could you please let me have before Thursday, to enable me to sort out beforehand.  Please bring your own drink and supper for the evening.

If you haven’t bought your tickets for the evening, you can pay on the door, but if you could let me know you are coming for the seating numbers.

Sunday 16th July – Summer evening cruise on Mersey – its our Summer evening cruise next week.  Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 6pm for our boarding at Seacombe, Wirral at 7.30pm,   we will be returning home 10.30pm approx.

Emmerdale visit – We will going to be visiting Emmerdale on Saturday 16th September, coach will be leaving Runcorn at 8.30am for a full day event.  Firstly we visit the Emmerdale village, where we are booked on the tour at 10.30am, it’s an hour and half tour of the village.  We then leave the village about 1pm  for a half hour journey to the Emmerdale Experience in Leeds.   We are booked on the 2.10pm tour, which lasts 75 minutes.  Cost for the full day event will be £10 for HALDS members and £50 for non members.   Money to be paid by end July – Due to numbers increasing  our tours in the afternoon are now 2.10 and 2.20pm so arrival back to Runcorn will be 6pm/6.30pmish.  Don’t know where we will fit lunch in, maybe take a packed lunch with you and get a drink at either Village or Experience – This trip is now full

Monday 30th October – Billy & Wally show at Brindley Theatre, cost £10 each.  Money to be paid by end Sept – Tickets are now purchased for the show 

Friday 3rd Nov – Body Shop Christmas shopping party – Fund raising Body Shop party with discounts on Christmas items

Friday 9th March 2018 – Weekend at Marlborough Hotel, Llandudno,  All Saints Themed Break, which includes Friday  St Davids Day, Tea/coffee and Bara Brith on arrival, 6.15pm  Sherry Drinks Reception, 6.30 Welsh Feast followed by live entertainment and Light finger buffet at 10.30pm.  Saturday is St Patricks Day which includes 6.15pm Irish Liquor Drinks reception, 6.30 Irish Dinner followed by live entertainment and Light finger buffet at 10.30pm followed by Sunday St Andrews Day which includes 8.30am Traditional Scottish Breakfast, 6.15 Guess the weight of the haggis, 6.30pm Scottish Supper followed by live entertainment and Light finger buffet at 10.30pm . Each evening you will be required to either dress fancy dress for the theme or the colours of the country.

Cost is £140 per person.   Please let me know if you would like to come along to this weekend away, as rooms will be allocated as booked.  A deposit of £50 per person will be required end of September.

Wicked – 12th March 2018,  Empire Theatre, Liverpool  – This trip is now full, further details later in the year

Eurodisney –  Saturday 24thNov 2018 –  I am looking at prices for another trip to Eurodisney in November 2018, it will be the Christmas theme, we would depart Runcorn on a Saturday and travel down to Dover, staying overnight, Sunday morning we will be going via the Eurotunnel to Calais then travelling down to Eurodisney,  followed by 3 days on the park, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, departing Thursday lunchtime for journey back to Dover via Eurotunnel, overnight in Ramada, Dover then returning home Friday.  Cost at the moment £599 per person based on 2 sharing.   Please let me know if interested in coming along.

We held a committee meeting on Monday 12th June and we have planned the following trips and speakers for meetings.

Bowling – Tuesday 15th August, 6.45 Widnes Bowling 2 games bowl, 1 drink and sharing nibbles £5 per person, please let me know if you would like to attend asap as I have to book the alleys to enable us to keep the date (There is no ELLA Performance this evening due to holidays)

Tour Manchester United ground/lunch – Sat 9th Sept – Date yet to be confirmed – Visit to Old Trafford Stadium with lunch in the red cafe- Cost £10 per person

Last of the Summer wine bus/village tour and Howarth (Bronte country) – OCT date to be confirmed

Media City, TV studio tour, Manchester – Monday 20th November, leaving Runcorn 9.15 for 10.30 tour – cost £5 per person – This is limited to 22 people for the tour 

Rock ‘n’ Roll panto Sleeping beauty at Theatre Clwyd, Wednesday 6th December, leaving Runcorn 5.30pm – cost £10 per person

Christmas lunch cruise, Chester Tuesday 19th Dec – Departing Mill Hotel 12 noon and returning 3pm approx. Cost is £10 which includes 3 course meal.  Deposit of £5 require at the July meeting.

Visit to Liverpool FC stadium, Saturday 20th January, Cost £5 per person

Imperial war museum, Manchester, Monday 12th Feb – Cost £5 per person

April – Northwich museum/Blakemere craft village

May – Weekend Yorkshire – more details at a later date

June – Chatsworth Flower Show – date to be confirmed

June – War Horse, Lowry Theatre – date to be confirmed

I am going to be contacting the following speakers for meetings from September:

  • Citizen Advice
  • Carers Centre
  • ALD nursing team
  • Community care i.e. dentist/opticians

If you have any ideas for speakers at the meeting please let me know.

It was decided that this year we will not be holding a Christmas Fair.

Caring with Confidence Course – Would you be interested in attending a Caring with confidence course?  Halton Carers Centre would provide a series of awareness courses solely for HALDS members.  Each session is 3 hours long and lasts for 7 sessions, lunch will be provided.

The 7 courses cover the following issues:

  • Finding your way
  • Caring and coping
  • Caring and me
  • Caring day-to-day
  • Caring and resources
  • Caring and life
  • Caring and communication
