I would like to thank you all for another successful year with HALDS, as without you all, the group would not be the success it is today and I cannot believe we are now coming up to our 8th birthday in February, talking of which we are going to celebrate our 8th birthday at The Old Hall, Frodsham on 19th February, please let me know if you would like to attend, cost will be £5, I will have menus for selection at Januarys meeting.

Committee members – I would like to remind you we have a committee meeting on 15th January 11am at the Mencap Acorn centre, where we will decide this years social events, fund raising evenings and speakers for future meetings. If you are not on the committee but would like to come along please do so, as your views are always welcome.

Funding – I am pleased to advise that we have been awarded £9,900 from the Awards for all lottery funding for social events throughout the year and also £1,000 from Area Forum to help towards our birthday meal at The Old Hall.

At our November meeting we held our Christmas raffle and raised £136 towards our funds, Brenda Llorca also sold some of her knitting garments for us and this raised £25 towards our funds.  In place of sending Christmas cards to HALDS members, I have donated money to HALDS, there will be a tin at our Christmas party, if other members would like to do the same.

I have been approached by Trudy from Halton Libraries re a new group she is looking at setting up in the libraries for Adults with Learning Disabilities.  Trudy is going to be coming along to HALDS January meeting to tell you about her new idea and to get feedback to what you think about the new group

Halton Libraries are planning to improve their resources for adults with learning disabilities and set up library groups in Runcorn and Widnes for them to attend.

The aim of the group will be to show that the library is a comfortable and welcoming place and we will provide different books and other resources each meeting to give members the opportunity to look at and borrow books and use our computers.

This will also provide an opportunity for families and PAs to see what the library has to offer as a place to visit. There would be groups at Widnes and Runcorn Libraries.

I will be at the January meeting of HALDs and would like to know your views on this and any suggestions of resources we could offer.

In the meantime, please contact me if you would like any further information
