I hope you have all had a good summer holiday break and feel ready to start a new season with HALDS, full of social events, fund raising evenings and generally all having a good time and not forgetting the information gained from speakers at the meetings.

Don’t forget the Library Learners Course starting on 5th Sept at 10.30am at Widnes Library and which lasts for 4 weeks.  Week 1 – Introduction to the library, Week 2 – IT resources, look at on-line magazines, comics etc.  Week 3 – Local History, family history, find out about your area and family tree, Week 4 – Books choose your favourite.   The course is open to adults with a learning disability and their carers and also  Halton Library is also hosting a North West Learn Fest: Tech meet up for adults with learning disabilities, Wed 12th Sept 1.30 – 3pm Widnes Library  and Wed 19th Sept 1.30 – 3pm Halton Lea Library.  Discover augmented reality in the library and learn what a code bug is.

As from September our NEW meeting time is 12 noon, we will have lunch, then I will go through the agenda, then we will have our speaker at 1pm, this will help carers who have to leave early from the meetings.  We will see how this pans out, if its too early for carers, we will revert back to the original time of 12.30.  Please let me have feed back for new times. 

Funding – I applied for funding from Greggs, unfortunately we have been declined

I have recently had to purchase a new printer for HALDS and am able to purchase instant ink, which is a big saving, we get 3 months free, then after that its 7.99 per  month.  We use 2 printer cartridges a month which used to cost us over 30 pound a month   

Bowling – Would you be interested in having a bowling session on a monthly basis?  Widnes bowling are offering  Nifty Fifty events of a morning, we would be looking at going the 2nd Monday of the month, starting on 17th Sept at 10.30, (except Oct when it would be 8th due to Terracotta Soldiers trip) cost would be 5 Pound each and this would include 2 games of bowls, a bacon butty and a cuppa.  If you would like to come along on the 17th Sept, please let me know by Thursday 13th Sept as I need to book lanes on the Friday.  The Nifty Fifties is not held during school holidays 

Barnum, Brindley Theatre, Runcorn – Friday 14th Sept – Cost 10 Pound for HALDS members, 18 Pound non HALDS, Show starts 7.30pm so please meet in the foyer for 7pm.  Money is still due for this show, so could you please find a way to pay  me next week. As I go away next Saturday until 8th Sept.  You can either pay direct into my bank account or drop off threw letter box at 62 Betchworth Crescent, Beechwood, Runcorn, WA7 2YA, Thank you

Northwich Weaver Hall Museum/Lunch Bowling Green – Wed 26th Sept – Coach will be leaving Widnes Stobart Stadium at 9.50am then Runcorn  at 10am for arrival 11am where tea/coffee will be provided followed by a talk and film show about the museum, you will then have time to wander round on your own.  This is followed by lunch at 1pm next door at The Bowling Green Pub. Menus have been given out, so could you please let me know your choice of menu asap.

Billy & Wally Show, Brindley Theatre, Runcorn – Thurs 4th Oct – 10 Pound HALDS members and 22 Pound Non HALDS, Show starts 7pm so please meet in foyer for 6.30pm.  Money due by end September

Fund raising evening – We are holding a fund raising evening on Friday 5th October, 7.30pm – HOY and Rock ‘n’ Bingo.  We will have music from our resident DJ Adam and a raffle, tickets are now on sale 3pound each

Terracota Soldiers – Mon 15th Oct – Cost 10 Pounds. We will be leaving Runcorn 9.45am after the visit to Terracota Soldiers, you will have free time in Liverpool to shop or have lunch before our journey  home at 2.30pm. Cost for non HALDS member 15pounds  – money due by end September  

Bowling Widnes with supper – Wed 24th October 7pm – Cost 5 Pounds for HALDS members cost for Non Halds to be advised. – Payment due by end September 

Christmas Fair – HALDS are holding a Christmas Fair on Monday 19th November, if you know anyone who would like a stall at this event, please let me know.  HALDS will be having a tombola stall at this event, so I am looking for items for tombola stall and for a Christmas raffle.  I am also looking at putting a stall on for HALDS of gifts, i.e. hand made cushion covers, xmas items etc.  so if you have any bits of material please either let me have it or make some things to put on our stall

Eurodisney – 24th November 2018 – Cost £525 per person.  We will shortly be counting the sleeps to Eurodisney, I am now needing details from you, passport numbers, full names as on passports, holiday insurance policy number, company and contact number of insurance for emergency.  Except for members paying monthly, could you please make balance payments via BACS into COGO Travels account (I can give you their bank details) or a cheque made payable to COGO Travel, alternatively you can phone COGO travel direct on 01273 020 531 to pay via debit or credit card, both the latter please use our reference 011118 and let them know you are with the HALDS group. If you could please let me know when you have made a payment   ALL PAYMENTS ARE TO BE PAID BY END SEPTEMBER TO COGO.  – Once all paid, I will have invoices for Direct Payments etc.

When in Eurodisney you can apply for an Easy Access Card, this will save you having to queue for long periods for rides and shows, you go in via the disabled entrance, to get this Easy Access card you need to take a PIP or DLA letter that is within 3 months of us going to Eurodisney, so you can apply for this in mid September.

Mary Poppins on Ice – Sun 9th Dec – In total I have booked 98 places, due to me purchasing more tickets there are a few tickets still available for this event. Please note, no further tickets will be purchased for this show

HALDS Christmas party – Friday 14th Dec, all welcome

Chester Zoo Lantern Parade – Wed 19th December, 7.30pm – Cost 10 Pound for HALDS members, There will be no coach for this event, we will be meeting at Chester Zoo.  For 1 person with a disability a carer will go free

Marlborough Hotel Christmas Break away – Friday 21st December to Sunday 23rd December 2018, Friday will be Christmas eve theme and Saturday Christmas day.  Cost would be £100 per person plus coach.  We would arrive Friday afternoon and cost includes Friday evening meal through to Sunday lunch.  We would then leave Llandudno Sunday afternoon for journey home.  All guests will receive a Christmas gift from Santa.  Please let me know if you would like to come along to this weekend away.  Deposits of £50 due now followed by balances end October.

Theatre Clwyd Rock’n’Roll panto Dick Whittington – Fri 11th January 2019.  Cost £10 for HALDS members.  Theatres in Clywd now have HYNT cards to enable carers to go free with their paying cared for.  Therefore if you apply for a free HYNT card (which can be used all over Wales in their theatres) the cost for 1 carer for this show will be free, you will only pay for your cared for £10.

Committee members – We are holding a committee meeting on Monday 17th September, due to this also being our first bowling event, the meeting will now be at 1pm, hope this is okay with everyone.

Halton Carers Centre coffee mornings – There is now going to be speakers at the Halton Carers Coffee mornings starting on Thursday 20th September with Emma from GP Extra, Thursday 18th October, Irene Bramwell, Halton Healthwatch and Thursday 15th November with Halton Library photos and information on old Runcorn, starts 12 noon – 2pm at Churchhill Hall, Runcorn
