Hi folks

Here we are again in another lockdown, try to keep yourselves busy and stay positive, hopefully by next summer, we will be back to our social events and we will be saying virus!! What virus? !!!!!   Start making a list of places you would like to go or things to do, as the money is sitting there in the bank untouched. 

Our walking group has stopped again for this lockdown and will re start on Wed 9th December. If you would like to join us in our walks, please let me know.

At present Dunham Massey Christmas event is still going ahead, as its restricted numbers and also takes place outdoors, this is now all booked and paid for.  Our tour is 7pm, so we will probably arrange to meet outside at 6.50pm.  No one has paid, but please ensure you are definitely coming, as the tickets were £18 each.   If you feel you are unable to attend please let me know and I will see if I can get anyone else for your tickets.

I think I can say that the weekend at the Marlborough will not be taking place in Dec as planned.  Once its safe to do so, we will have a well earned break there.

I also have money here for members for trips cancelled this year, if you would like to come and collect from mine, please let me know and I can arrange pick up.

Carers News:

It was announced a few days ago, that adults 18 plus, who have Downs Syndrome  have been added to the list of people who are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable to Covid-19.  For more information, please visit the Downs Syndrome Association website.

I have been informed that Lloyds Pharmacy in Runcorn Old Town will be closing early in the new year, therefore if you have your prescriptions automatically sent there via your doctor, now is the time to change your pharmacy, before the rush in the new year.

Hi all

We are all facing difficult times at present, we were hoping to be able to get to our monthly meetings and a meal out, but sadly more restrictions were put in place which stopped us meeting up.  Once I know we are safe to meet, I will arrange a monthly meeting and a meal out to enable us all to get together.  On a good note, the money is untouched in the bank, so once we are able to start moving about, the social events will start up immediately and then hopefully, present times will seem like a dream or nightmare in the past.

Our walking group at present is still taking place, (but this may change on Mondays announcements)  so if you fancy meeting up (covid distances) and talking a casual walk, please let me know, we meet every Wednesday at 11am at different venues.

Its that time of year again for winter ailments, so don’t forget about Care in the Chemist which gives you advice and treatment for a range of minor conditions.  This is for people who receive free prescriptions only.

September Newsletter

After a 6 month lockdown,  I am looking at starting up the HALDS meetings again, starting from Monday 28th September at the new time of 1pm.  Please do not arrive before 12.50pm.  Sadly there will be no lunch and no drinks. You will also need to let me know before hand if you are attending the meeting and also if you are in a social bubble with anyone else coming along to the meeting, this will enable me to put out chairs for each group, i.e. 2 chairs for 2 people, 3 chairs for 3 people, there will then be a 2 metre gap between bubbles. The hall has been thoroughly cleaned and all the tables and a lot of the chairs have been moved out of the main room.  The ladies toilet is blocked off, so ladies have to use the disabled toilet and mens is as normal, we only have access to the main room and the toilets.  There is anti bac gel at the entrance and outside the toilets and social distancing reminders on the floor. 


On arrival, you will need to gel your hands and I will then tell you were you are sitting.  The only time you are get up to walk round is to go the toilet.

For our September meeting, we will have a general catch up, money will be refunded to any trips which you had paid for, which has been cancelled.

For our October meeting we will hold our AGM.

Hopefully these precautions will only be for a short time and things will then get back to some normality.

I have spoken to Anthonys travel today and for safety to the passengers they have had filters put into their air conditioning on the coaches, this filters the air, making it safer for us.  They also only have half the numbers on the coaches.

I have also spoken to the Marlborough Hotel, Llandudno and the hotel is only open for guests, hand gel in all general areas, waitress service at the bar, tables in dining room more spaced out and sadly no entertainment.  Please let me know if you would like to come along to the Marlborough on Friday 18th December, nearer the time, Alan will advise whether there will be entertainment for our weekend, if not, the price will be reduced.         

Walking Group –  Our walking groups are now held every Wednesday at 11am   The meeting place and walk will be advertised each week on our Whats App page and also I will send out an e-mail advising were the walk will take place for that particular week.   All are welcome on our walks, we keep our distance from each other and the pace is leisurely.

Social Events

Mon 12th Oct – I am looking at putting together a meal at the Upton Tavern in Widnes, I have spoke to the manager and I am going to visit the room after my holidays,  in the meantime if you would be interested in attending a lunch or afternoon tea on 12th October please let me know, as this will give me an idea on numbers, its maximum 30 people

Wed 14th December, 7pm – Dunham Massey Christmas event – This is now all booked and paid for, details will be given nearer the date.

Community Gardening Group

I am helping to start up Green Fingers Gardening Club on 24th September, at Brookvale Community Centre 11am – 1pm,  this will entail setting up an allotment in the garden behind the centre, workshops, seed sowing and many more gardening jobs. If you would like to join our group, please contact me for more information

Brens coffee days – Brenda is having a 3 day coffee event, on 14th, 15th & 16th September, in aid of Halton Haven,  she has lots of goodies for sale, you can call in any day, any time from 10am.  If you would like to attend, if you could please phone or text Brenda and let her know which day you would like to attend on 07551 700386

I hope you are all keeping safe and well, those who have been self isolating will now be able to get out and about, though all take care as the virus is still out there.

Walking Group – From Wed 12th August the walking group is going to be held on a Wednesday. Tuesday 4th will take place as normal, for this walk, we are meeting at Pickering Pasture car park at 11am.   The meeting place and walk will be advertised each week on our Whats App page and also I will send out an e-mail advising were the walk will take place for that particular week.   All are welcome on our walks, we keep our distance from each other and the pace is leisurely.

Future meetings

I am hoping, all being well, we can re-start back to our meetings end September, obviously things will be different for a while or until we get the vaccine, there would be no lunch or teas & coffees provided and no tables set out. But you could bring your own refreshments.

I will keep you posted on the above as depends on government saying groups can meet and also when Mencap hall will be opening for groups to attend, I will let you know about our meetings re-starting in the September newsletter.

Social Events:

Any monies paid for social events will be refunded, though I do have a new social event to add:

Wed 14th December, 7pm – Dunham Massey Christmas event – This is an outside event and there will be no transport provided, you will go in your own car, Cost is £5 per person for HALDS members and £18 for non members.  Please let me know if you would like to attend, how many cars you will have, car registration and also please let me know if you are a National Trust Member and also your membership number.   National Trust members get free parking, but non members parking is £7 per car, which HALDS will pay for as there is no coach.  I have to book your car park space when confirming numbers attending.    This is a 90 minutes walking event so wrap up warm for a mix of winter traditions and seasonal spectacles.  Take a festive walk around the Winter Garden, explore Percy the Park Keepers woodland cabin an warm yourself up with hot chocolate in the Stamford Café.

Hearing Aid Batteries – if you are running low on batteries for hearing aids you can telephone Warrington Hospital on 01925 662420 and they will send some out in the post for you. Also if you need your hearing aid tubes changed, Halton Hospitals ear clinic is not open yet, but you can make an appointment and pop along to Warrington Hospital ear clinic to get them changed, but you need an appointment to attend.  Also batteries can be picked up in the foyer of Highfield clinic, Highfield Road, Widnes.

Face Masks – With the new rules regarding wearing face masks, if you person you care for is exempt from wearing a mask please take a look at the website www.keepsafe.org.uk/mask  for more information on the exempt cards available.

TV Licences – If you or a member of your household is registered blind or vision impaired you can apply for 50% off your TV Licence. A form can be downloaded to apply

Pension Refund for Woman hitting 67 before 6.4.2016 – This was on Martin Lewis money show a few weeks back and its for married woman who were 67 before 6.4.2016, a lot of woman were paid the incorrect pension, you can go onto  the web site Lane, Clark & Peacock and fill in your details and you could be owed thousands. THIS IS NOT A SCAM, a lot of woman have had big pay outs.  I have missed it by 1 month!!!!!!

July Newsletter

I hope you are all still keeping safe and well at this difficult time, it’s getting harder I know but hopefully we can see the light at the end of  tunnel – though still a long tunnel!!!!   Keep the jokes coming in on our Whats App page

We have started up our walking group, which is going well, we have had 2 walks round Spike Island and this Tuesday 7th July we are meeting at the car park by the Ice Rink in Widnes for a walk round Pickering Pasture, the walks are very leisurely and usually last about 1 hour.  We can walk at a distance between us and chat.  It’s good to get out and meet people and members attending are enjoying the walks .

We meet weekly on a Tuesday at 11am if anyone would like to join us.

Funding

I am sorry to say, but we were not successful for our funding bid from Awards for All  funding for people affected by the virus, they were unable to fund our projects, as it was over 12 month period and also is not in keeping with current government guidelines.  It also did not address the current priorities.  Next year when everything is back to normal!!!! I will apply to the normal Awards for All for funding.

Future meetings

I am hoping, all being well, we can re-start back to our meetings end September,  obviously things will be different for a while or until we get the vaccine,  there would be no lunch or teas & coffees provided and no tables set out. Phantom of the Opera – Palace Theatre, Manchester – This has been put backuntil 2021, they are holding onto our money until we know any future dates of the performance

Mam I’m ere, Royal Court, Liverpool – Thurs 6th August – I received am e-mail and they hope to put on the show sometime next year

We Will Rock You – Thus 10th Sept – Brindley Theatre £10 for HALDS members and £17 for non HALDS – This has been put back until March 2021

Marlborough Hotel- Llandudno Turkey & Tinsel – Friday 18th December, 3 nights £130 per person – I don’t know what will be happening about this weekend away, it depends on how and when hotels start re-opening and how safe we all feel about going, and then there is the coach, how would be distance our selves on the coach.  We will wait until the hotels start re-opening before making a decision.

PA Payments – If you normally employ a regular PA for your cared for, I have it in writing that we can continue paying our Pas and agencies their normal hours.  As long as it’s within your budget.  It is to enable you to keep your staff. I asked if they could be furloughed but the reply was it doesn’t apply to PAs because the funding used to pay them is public funds so we must continue to pay them which is good as it means they are protected.

NHS prescription form – a new version of a form has been published that will allow disabled people claiming Universal Credit to show their pharmacist if they are entitled to free prescriptions

Halton Libraries Home Delivery Library Service, this normally operates for people who are normally housebound or people with mobility problems, but they are currently taking people on a temporary basis if over 70, or any age if shielding and unable to get out and about at present. Mobility Insurance refund – If you have a mobility car, insurance refunds of £50 are being sent out, as not many people are using their cars at the moment 

Active Halton – Staying Active at home during Covid-19 – Halton Borough council have issued information on line with links to Keeping Active at Home,  chair based excercises, family games, 10 minute workouts, Arthritis Action and many more links,

Halton Carers Centre News

The staff at Halton Carers Centre are now back in the office, BUT the office is not open to the public, the staff are split into 2 groups and each group works half a week in the office and the other half at home, so if you need to speak to anyone, need any advice or information or would like to participate in any of the groups below please don’t hesitate to give them a call  on 01928 580182 or e-mail help@haltoncarers.co.uk

They are holding fortnightly coffee mornings, Autism training sessions, Activities for Young carers,  Dementia coffee groups and Recharge & Restore Relaxation Groups all via zoom.

I hope you are all keeping safe and well at this difficult time for us all.  Try to keep positive and hopefully it won’t be too long before we can all start going out and about again and meeting friends and family.  Look at this time at home to chill, do gardening, time to have a spring clean and a good sort out.

Funding

We received a cheque for £250 from Masonic Lodge, HALDS had been put forward in January by a friend of Lizs.  I have also applied for funding of £9k from Awards for All but its for people affected by the virus, not the normal Awards for All funding,  if we are successful we have to use the funding within 6 months.   I put down for a weekend away at The Marlborough Hotel, Llandudno.

Future meetings

I don’t know when our meetings will resume, I can imagine it will be a long time before a group as large as ours can meet in one room. 

In the meantime, I thought if small groups wanted to meet outside, maybe go for a walk in the park, either on our own or meet up with our cared fors, to allow them to meet with friends and walk round the park, keeping distance obviously.  Or even invite friends to your back garden and distance your chairs, its all ways of keeping in contact now that we can have small groups together.

 I thought about starting up our walking group again, the first walk will be at Spike Island on Tuesday 16th June at 11am, meet in the car park.  We can distance whilst walking round and talking. We can then discuss whether you want to meet weekly to enable us to get out and about.

They have someone making face masks, scrubs and scrub bags and these are being issued to Health centres across Halton.

If you need a letter for when out and about, the cares centre are issuing letters to registered carers in case you are stopped whilst out shopping or collecting medication/prescriptions.  To get a letter please telephone 01928 580182 or e-mail help@haltoncarers.co.uk

Note: If you still wish to apply for funding for the above activities you are still able to, however funding won’t be released until such a time when the Government relaxes its stance on isolation and social distancing or you can provide proof that such organisations/activities are taking bookings. i.e. driving instructor, theatre, holiday companies, gyms etc. 

If you wish to apply for Carer Break Funding and you have applied in the past, a ll Receipts must be returned from your previous award before another application will be considered

PPE scams – Please beware of scams going round at present via telephone calls and also leaflets through doors, offering PPE equipment for sale.

Funding

We have received £1,580 from Halton Borough Council for our monthly meetings and also £1,000 from Knights House Fund, I also applied for £3k from Masonic and I have received an e-mail asking for more information, which sounds promising. I am also going to make an application for Awards for All funding for a break away, as I think we will all need a break when safe to venture outside.

Future meetings

The first meeting back we will have a general catch up and lunch, followed the following month with our AGM.

David Gray from Welfare Rights will be talking at one of our meetings, hopefully be the month after our AGM, he will give a general talk on Welfare Rights then it will be open questions for you to ask, afterwards he will talk to members privately if required and also will arrange appointments at his office if you so require a lengthy meeting with him. We may turn meeting around and go through the agenda whilst having lunch, then it saves rushing David.

Carer Break FundingDue to COVID19 Carers Break Funding can, for now, be used for the following purchases of equipment for your own use which will enable you to have a break i.e: • Purchase of paint, wallpaper and necessary equipment to decorate your home • To purchase plants, pots, garden furniture and garden equipment ie jet washer & tools for your garden • For home gym equipment like weights, treadmill, rowing machine etc • Towards the cost of a Smart TV • Purchase of TV package i.e. Now TV, SKY Cinema, SKY Sports, Netflix, Amazon fire stick etc.

The above list will be reviewed and amended when necessary.

Examples of Breaks currently on hold due to COVID19 include: • Holiday (including any already booked or taken) • Day trips or short breaks • Driving lessons • Access to services to enhance your caring role • Leisure activities such as gym membership • Accessing relaxation therapy, pamper or hairdressing treatments • Theatre or sports tickets • Labour costs associated with household activities such as gardening, cleaning or decorating. • Food and drink during the break (including alcohol)

Note: If you still wish to apply for funding for the above activities you are still able to, however funding won’t be released until such a time when the Government relaxes its stance on isolation and social distancing or you can provide proof that such organisations/activities are taking bookings. i.e. driving instructor, theatre, holiday companies, gyms etc.

If you wish to apply for Carer Break Funding and you have applied in the past, a ll Receipts must be returned from your previous award before another application will be considered

February Newsletter

This is the first newsletter for 2020 and I would like to thank you for being there for me & my family over the past 8 months on our roller coaster of a ride, it was greatly appreciated and hope you all appreciate that at present I am still not up to organising HALDS 100 %. HALDS will keep going with help from Kerrie Ross who is going to be organising social events. At the AGM in April, we will adding more posts, these being Social Secretary and a Fund Raising group. More about this in March meeting.

We didn’t have a speaker for January meeting but I gave an overview of Lasting Power of Attorneys, DID forms etc. Please let me know if you would like any forms which we talked about or any information or if you would like to take the black folder holding all the information home to read through, just let me know.

Since the meeting I have found out that Halton Disability also will apply on line for blue badges, you need to make an appointment and take relevant information and they will complete the application for you.

I am hoping to get someone from Welfare Rights to come along to our February meeting and Michaela from Halton Carers Centre is coming along to our March meeting on Monday 30th to update us all with the carers centre.

At the meeting we held a belated raffle and with the raffle and football card we raised £114 towards our funds, Brenda was selling jewellery for HALDS and took £32 and Kerrie & Vera also sold homemade cheese pie and cakes and made £30.50 for Georgias trip to Kenya. Thank you for your contributions

Funding

Last year Kerrie & Vera held weekly bingo sessions, half of proceeds of which came to HALDS £627 also they held 2 tombolas in Runcorn Shopping City square before Christmas were a further £ 350 was raised. Many thanks to you both for all your hard work raising funds for the group

Sharon is also competing in a run at Hale Park on Sunday 12th April, all proceeds to HALDS, I have sponsor forms at our meetings, please sponsor generously

I have also applied for £1,000 from Knight Trust for carer breaks during 2020.

We held a committee meeting on Monday 13th January, were it was discussed a 3rd signatory urgently required on our bank account,   Pat Wright volunteered and was proposed and seconded to be the 3rd signatory on our bank

Bowling – The next bowling at Widnes Supabowl is Mon 10th February, meet 10.20am for 10.30am start, cost is £6 for all members, which includes 2 games bowling, cuppa and bacon butty, HALDS will pay for unders 50s extra for refreshments.

Social Events:

At present there are only 2 social events which I planned outstanding, which I am still going to organise, details as follows:

Eurodisney – 14th March – I am letting members attending know directly the details for this trip 

Phantom of the Opera – Palace Theatre, Manchester Wed 8th April 2020, Cost £10, this is now booked.   Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town 5.15 and Widnes Stobart Stadium 5.30pm

New Social Events

Kerrie has organised new social events, if you would like to attend, please let me know and I will ask Kerrie to put your names down, these are as follows:

Thurs 4th June – Quarry Bank Mill, this will include tour of Quarry Bank Mill, village and lunch, Cost £10, (for National Trust members cost will be confirmed, once we know the luncheon costs) – To be paid by end April

Sat 18th July, full day in Blackpool at your leisure, followed by Hot Ice show in the evening – Cost £10 – to be paid by end May

Thurs 11th September – We Will Rock You at Brindley Theatre – Cost £10 – to be paid by end July

We are also looking at attending Dunham Massey at Christmas

Social Events now have to be paid for 2 months prior to event, NO chasing will be done – DON’T PAY, NO PLACE, SIMPLY AS –  

Our constitution has been amended, for people who are on e-mails, I have e-mailed them out and asked for reply to say you have received and will adhere to the amendments in section 3. I also have hard copies, if you would like a copy, please read, then sign the sheet which I have at the meetings to say you adhere to the amendments. Failure to not sign to agree to changes, will be automatic membership closure.

Brenda is holding a coffee morning on Monday 3rd February at 10am at 46 Wicksten Drive, all proceeds for HALDS funds. All welcome

Also I am holding a coffee morning on 20th February at 10.30am at my house, 62 Betchworth Crescent, towards Georgias Kenya fund, we have managed to raise over £3,000 so far and are down to £900 to raise before 1st May. I am also holding an Easter bingo on Saturday 4th April, doors open 6.30 for eyes down 7pm, this was Lizs wish, which I am carrying out on her behalf.

August Newsletter

The speakers at Julys meeting where Gail & Colette from Inspire who introduced us to their Inspire Project.  The aims of the project is to delivery training and employment prospects to adults with learning difficulties. The venue would be Waterloo Road, Widnes You can self refer to the project by telephoning 0151 422 0111 or e-mail gatewayc2017@outlook.com.  More details can be found on the website www.gatewaycommunity.co.uk.  Your cared for can attend from half day to a full week, and can be funded by direct payments. Or via Personal Budget.  (We covered Personal Budgets many years ago, if you want, I can get Mal Hampson from Halton Speak Out to come again and talk to us about Personal Budgets).  They will cover Foundation skills i.e. Work skills,   Vocational skills i.e. Creative techniques, photograpy, art & design etc. and Life Skills i.e. cooking/home skills.  They are having an open day in September, date to be confirmed.

 

Funding – I have not applied for any funding for a few months, but will start my searching again for funding for the group

 

 Sponsored walk – Sharon & Danny are doing a sponsored walk for HALDS on Sat 7th September from Widnes to Frodsham, which is greatly appreciated, if you have not yet sponsored them, the sponsor forms will be at the September meeting

 

Don’t forget to keep filling up your slummy jars for HALDS, bring along your full jars and collect an empty one to refill. Up to know the jars have raised £143 for HALDS funds.

 

There will be no meeting in August and also no bowling, I apologise for those who attended the July bowling and it hadn’t been booked and was full of school children, I hadn’t even given it a thought to book, hence the reason why I took a back seat at the present, my mind was everywhere.  The bowling will re-commence on Monday 9th September and yes it is booked and our next meeting will be on Mon 30th September where our speaker will be Lorna Lucas from Cheshire Fire & Safety.

 

Sailing on The Danny – Monday 5th August – Steamship Experience followed by lunch at The Riverside, Action Bridge. Please wear warm clothing and suitable footwear.  Coach will be leaving Widnes Stobart Stadium at 10.15 and Runcon Old Town bus station at 10.25am.  The Danny will set sail at 11am from Sutton Weaver and sail to Acton Bridge, arriving at 1.30pm, where your coach will meet you to take you all to the Riverside for lunch.  No meals have been pre-ordered.   Arrival back at Runcorn 4pmish

 

 

 

 

Marlborough Hotel – Sept 20th 2019 – 3 nights £140 plus coach £15 per person.  This is a 3 night stay at the hotel which includes bed, breakfast & evening meal, plus entertainment on 3 evenings.  Coach will be leaving Widnes Stobart Stadium at 1.15pm and Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 1.30pm.  For people who have not paid the coach, this can be paid on the day.  We had received £750 towards our Marlborough Hotel weekend, therefore as we are now no longer going to the Marlborough at xmas, the £750 will be refunded to HALDS members attending the Marlborough weekend on Friday 20th Sept.

 

Liverpool Empire – Mon 14th Oct – Les Mis, Cost £20 for HALDS members, Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus Station 5.45, Widnes Stobart Stadium 6pm.  – Money to be paid by end Sept – All places taken

 

Chatsworth House – Mon 18th Nov £10 – Coach will be leaving Runcorn at 9am and you will be home 7.30pmish.  This will be a full day event, on arrival at Chatsworth House, you can visit the Christmas Market and gardens, have lunch etc, we are then booked on the house tour at 3pm.

 

Beauty & The Beast on Ice – Sunday 15th Dec –  I have re-introduced the ice show at Blackpool it will be the ice show only, no meal beforehand and only for 1 coach of 49 people, please put you name down if interested in attending. Money to be paid by end November

 

Once – Liverpool Empire, Thursday 23rd Jan – I have reserved 22 places, please let me know by end Sept if you would like to attend, as I have to confirm number of seats by Oct.  Once is a musical about a Dublin street busker and a Czech musician filled with live music and a love story`

 

Eurodisney – 14th March 2020. If you would like to add onto the trip at any time, please let me know, Full cost is £629 for a twin room, £722 for a single room.  Cost includes 1 night in Dover with evening meal & breakfast,  4 nights at Santa Fe with breakfast and 2 day park passes,  Balance due by end Sept

Committee members, there is a committee meeting on Monday 9th Sept at 1.15 at Laburnum Grove, where we will discuss speakers and social events.

 

Halton SEND is a group for parents/carers of 16 – 25 year olds they are having a forum on Thursday 19th September 12 – 2pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Parish Club, Mayfield Ave, Widnes, WA8 8PR, it is an information update event for parents and carers on the restructuring of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health) in schools and services in Halton.  The event is held in conjunction with Halton Borough Council & People too. Sub groups – We are looking at starting up the sub groups again in September, starting with the walking group on Tues 10th Sept at 11.30am. Meet at the Spike Island car park

 

I am also having a coffee morning at my house, 62 Betchworth Crescent, Beechwood on 14th August at 10.30am, this is for my granddaughter Georgia who is raising funds for a volunteering trip to Kenya for 1 month in August 2020, with Camp International, she has to raise all her own funds to go. All welcome

April Newsletter

We did not have a speaker for this months meeting, as Beth & Pam from Healthy Halton were unable to attend, so instead we had a catch up from past speakers with the leaflets and information I had and also discussed the way forward for HALDS.  I have received positive feedback from this session, as members thought it was most beneficial the information received.

Funding

We have been granted HBC funding of £1,550 which is for our monthly meetings and also £800 from HBC Area Forum.  Unfortunately we were not successful with D’Orlys funding.  We have 1 more funding bid out at present with Rank who do not meet until May.  At present our funds are good, but with events booked so far this year this will soon be spent.  To give an idea on costs used for trips, the Coronation Street tour cost us £525 for tickets and £325 for coach totalling £850 less £250 collected from members who attended, so this cost £600.  So this gives you some indication of what is spent on trips.  So though funds are good at present, we do need to keep having fund raising events to keep funds topped up.

Friday 12th April, Easter Bingo – This is the last meeting before our Easter Bingo with Easter Bonnet Parade, disco and raffle. Tickets now on sale £1, door tickets will be a separate raffle, so please put your names on your entrance tickets.  Doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start. Prizes will be Easter eggs/chocolates.  Please support this event, ask friends and family, it will be a good fun night.

Friday 19th July – HALDS Summer BBQ – Tickets £3, there will be a disco, rock ‘n’ roll bingo, HOY and bbq food for sale, doors open 5.30.  Tickets are slow moving on this event at present, so if you know you would will be coming along, please purchase your tickets.

There will also be an Easter Bingo with Kerrie & Vera on Tuesday 16th April at Halton Brook Community Centre, ticket sales start at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.  Some of the proceeds will come towards HALDS funds.  

Save your slummy for HALDS – I have plenty of jars to give out if you would like to take one home and  Save your slummy for HALDS.  As you bring in a full jar, you can take an empty one home with you.  So far we have collected over £120 from the jars.

AGM – Our meeting on Monday 29th April will be our AGM when our 2 year stints have come to an end, if you would like to be nominated for any of the posts of Chairperson, Secretary or Treasurer or you would like to volunteer to make teas/coffees at the meetings, organise raffle prizes or take money at meetings, please let me know, or become a committee member, where you can decide on events and speakers for meetings, we meet every 3 months at 1pm on a Monday at Laburnum Grove.

HALDS Bowling sessions – The next HALDS bowling session will be on Monday 8th April, the cost is £6 per person for 2 games of bowls, tea/coffee and bacon butty.  Please meet no later than 10.20 to allow time to change shoes and for me to pay and organise the lanes etc.   We will have our bowling prize giving at the Summer BBQ. 

Tramway Village, Matlock – Sat 27th April – Cost £10 – Coach will be leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus station at 9am and leaving for home from Matlock at 5pm. Your admission includes tea/coffee on arrival, finger buffet lunch at 1.30pm, unlimited electric tram rides, entry to exhibitions, three acres of woodland park – Money to be paid by end March

Royal Court Variety Lunch Club/Meal– Wed 8th May – Cost £10, which includes coach from Runcorn Old Town Bus Station at 11.45, Widnes Stobart Stadium at 12noon, Variety show and pub meal at Yacht Club Bar on Liverpools Waterfront.  Getting back to Runcorn 6pm approx. Please let me know if interested in coming, as there are 2 tickets still available.  Money to be paid by end April 

Mon 3rd June – Quiz evening with HVA at St Maries, Widnes – We now have our team of 6, but if you would like to come along please let me know and we could possible get another team together 

Birmingham Sea Life Centre/Shopping Birmingham city centre – Sat 18th May – £15 for HALDS members, we will be leaving Runcorn 9am and Birmingham for home 6pm.  This event will include a visit to Birmingham Sea Life Centre including a behind the scenes tour, then a couple of hours in Birmingham city centre and time to eat.  For those who have never been the Sea Life Centre and city centre is on a canal, with plenty of eateries on the canalside. Money to be paid by end April.

Carers are free on production of proof of disability on the day at the Sea Life Centre, so please bring along your PIP letters. Otherwise you will have to pay on the day.  This is now all booked and paid for

Gardeners World Live   – Thursday 13th June – Cost £20 for HALDS members and £30 for non members.  This is a full very interesting day at Birmingham NEC, we will be leaving Runcorn 8.30am and arriving home 8pmish. Money due by end May – This trip is now all booked and paid for 

Llangollen Eistefodd – Friday 5th July, Cost £10 for HALDS members, £20 for non HALDS.  Leaving Runcorn Old Town Bus Station at 9.30am, you will be dropped off at event field, where you will have the time to wander on your own, listen to singing, watch dancing and shop etc. Later in the afternoon, there is parade of the nations, which leaves carnival field at 4.30 and walks into Llangollen town. Well worth to see.  Leaving Llangollen 6pm for journey home.  Which will give you time to watch parade and get something to eat. Money to be paid by end June

Mamma Mia – Brindley Studio – Wed 24th July– Due to the success of Greatest Showman and Grease, we will be having a showing of Mamma Mia in the Brindley Studio, this showing is for HALDS members and friends & family, as before it will be reduced lighting (not dark) and a dance floor for the guys & Sharon to dance. Cost £6.50. Money due by end June

Sailing on The Danny – Monday 5th August – The Daniel Adamson known as The Danny. Come and enjoy a Steamship Experience followed by lunch at The Riverside, Action Bridge. Cost £10. Money due by end July. I will need to know numbers by end March to enable me to book the steamship

Shrewsbury Boat trip – Saturday 7th September – We will be picking up Widnes Stobart Stadium at 9.30, Runcorn Old Town bus station 9.45am travelling to Shrewbury to go on the 12 noon sailing on the Sabrina River Boat where we will have a 45 minute cruise with live commentary on the River Severn Loop,  along with tea/coffee and biscuits. You will then have free time in Shrewsbury to shop or visit places of interest.  We will be leaving to come home at 5.30pm – Cost £10 for HALDS members, £15 for Non HALDS – All money to be paid by end July

Marlborough Hotel, Christmas weekend – We are having another weekend in Llandudno Friday 20th December for 2 nights, cost £100 plus coach. Please let me know if you would like to come along on this weekend, money due by end October.

Euro Disney – March 2020 – I am sorry but I do not think the Euro Disney trip will be going ahead, as we only have 16 people interested, I will keep looking into ways we can go.

I am looking at putting on a trip to London/Harry Potter, the cost will be approx £130 per person (exact price will be given once I have definite numbers who want to attend) the cost will include Coach travel, afternoon in Covent Gardens or if you feel adventurous you can go further into London on your own, overnight stay at Holiday Inn Express and visit to Harry Potter, then journey home late afternoon.  The date I am looking at is Wed 2nd October, please let me know if you would be interested in coming along.

Health evening – Wednesday 24th April at 4pm – We will start all together and talk about  Health Issues and about the ALD Nursing team, we will then have a short break with a buffet followed by going into 2 separate rooms for male and female, where they will talk to the guys about breast/testicular cancer awareness etc.

This will be finished by 5.45.  Please let me know asap if you would like to attend this event, so I can confirm with ALD nursing team and order buffet. 

Halton Disability Partnership – Don’t forget if you need any help with PIP forms etc or any other advice on disability rights, you can contact Halton Disability Partnership for help and advice or I can help with form filling.

A reminder also that you are able to get Carer Break funding from Halton Carers Centre, each year, please ensure that you send in your receipts from your previous years funding, then ask them for another Carer Break form.  Also Halton Carers Centre now do their annual reviews on line, so if you receive your review please do not ignore, as to do so, you will be taken off their system as a carer.  If you are not on line, they will still phone you.

Sew Halton are having poppy making sessions for Runcorn Veterans Association, they are making a wall poppy hanging which will be hanging at the end of October.  If you have any red material or red wool to donate, please bring along to our meetings and I will forward onto them.  If you are interested in making the poppys yourself, I have the dates of the meetings which are on a Friday at Sew Halton, Runcorn Shopping City

We spoke about ways forward for HALDS, with the group growing in numbers (which is a good thing) it gets to a stage where its too big for a voluntary group, so I am going to be looking into funding for employ an administrator to organise our social events, book coaches etc. More about this later in the year

Also I mentioned about having smaller sub groups if anyone has a particular interest, crafts, visits to local places of interest etc, they could start up their own group with my help.  These groups would be self run, so HALDS would not book coaches etc.  We can discuss this in more detail at the AGM, so if you feel you would like to start up a sub group, please let me know before AGM.
